Title: One Message
Genre: General | Romance
Pairing: ShiHan
Rating: PG-13

Shiwon thinks that they're wasting time debating whether to take the car or not. It's only been five minutes since they went down from the dorm and yet Shiwon feels as if an eternity has already passed them by.

Getting more and more frustrated, Kangin yells at Heechul, "Just get in the car! We'll cover more distance that way!"

"NO! If we walk in different directions, we might find him faster! Don't you see, Kangin?! We don't even know where Hankyung went off to! What's the chance of us finding him if we only pick one way, one street? He could be anywhere! We don't even know if he took the train or a bus or a cab. We don't know anything! For all we know, Hankyung might have settled in one of the parks in the area! If we go by car we won't be able to find him at all!"

Realizing that there was truth in Heechuk’s words, Kangin's glare lessens. The thought of Heechul winning one over him puts him off, but right now, he thinks that they can’t afford a fight between them.

"All right. Let's split up. I'll take that way," Kangin says, pointing east.

"Then I'll go here."

"I'll try and find him in the places we've visited before," Shiwon says, already itching to go out and search for his hyung. "If one of us finds him, call, okay? So we know when to stop searching."

Kangin and Heechul nod in agreement.

Hankyung has been drifting on and off sleep in the last hour. He knows that if he stays still, the cold will take its toll on him. But even so, he couldn't find the strength to get up and walk anymore. The only thing he found the strength to was pray. Pray that someone had noticed he was missing and look for him. Pray that someone would find him already.

The wind begins to pick up and he shivers again. And because the streets have been empty for quite a while, it’s been so quiet. In the midst of all the silence Hankyung wishes for the noise, wishes that he was back in the dorms where it was warm, wishes that he was with the rest of the members laughing along with them even though he only understood half of what they were laughing at, wishes from the bottom of his heart that someone would be able to find him already.

Hankyung vows that he'd never take unanswered messages to heart next time.

Trying hard to stay awake, he sings a tune he's heard on the radio this morning. Rubbing his already numb hands together, he fights to keep what warmth he has left.

A few minutes pass and Hankyung falls asleep, tired and unable to fight the stress that had finally taken its toll on him.

---

Kangin shivers as a cold wind brushes against him.

It’s almost the middle of the night and the cold has begun to get really intimidating. He knows that a lot of people have died from sleeping outside during cold days like this so he was beginning to get really worried for his hyung. It wasn't possible that they'd find him dead, of course. But still, the thought scared him. Kyuhyun had been a close call before. Kangin thinks he wouldn't be able to handle the real thing.

Walking a bit faster, Kangin searches every nook and cranny of the streets he passes by, hoping that he'd be able to find Hankyung quickly. He's passed by countless streets already, checked out every alleyway and peered through 24/7 stores. Still, nothing.

He spots a park a ways ahead. He runs, suddenly very hopeful that he'd be able to find his hyung there.

Looking around, he checks out every bench, every tree and everywhere Hankyung might have stayed to stave off the cold. Minutes pass by in vain and Kangin begins to feel disheartened. There were some people in the park but none of them had been Hankyung. He wants to ask one of them where Hankyung is but he knows that it would sound strange: Hello, I'm looking for Hankyung, the Chinese member of Super Junior. Do you have an idea where he might have gone off to?

Frowning, he angrily lets out a growl. Time wasn't on their side and he knew, that every minute gone by might mean life or death -though he keeps on forcing himself not to think about that.

And then, as he nears the last bench in the park, he sees that someone is sitting there, hunched, probably sleeping. No lamp posts were on around that part of the park. In the darkness, Kangin tries to believe that that person is Hankyung.

Getting closer and closer, Kangin sees that it was male. A thin one. And that he was sleeping. He comes in front of the sleeping stranger, peers closely at him and gasps.

"Hyung..." he breathes, surprised, relieved and concerned all at once.

Gulping, he tries to shake the sleeping boy awake but fails. Kangin frowns and tries harder. Hankyung stirs but doesn’t wake. Kangin begins to realize that something is wrong. Feeling for his hyung's forehead, Kangin curses in realization.

Hankyung is sick with fever already.

Remembering to call, he searches for Shiwon's number.

It didn't take long before Shiwon answered.

---

Shiwon thinks he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself if anything happened to Hankyung.

Everyone had assured him that it wasn’t his fault and that they all had given a hand in this because they hadn’t answered the other boy’s messages as well. But still, every time he thinks of it, he cringes. Out of all the members, it is he who Hankyung almost always turns to. Whenever things gets too much, whenever the other misses home and needs someone to talk to, Hankyung always came to him.

Looking through every restaurant and every shop they would usually go to, Shiwon desperately hopes that the older boy is all right. Gritting his teeth from the cold, Shiwon tightens his coat around him and moves on.

Suddenly, the silence around him brakes with the sound of his phone ringing. Shiwon quickly takes his phone out from his pocket and sees that it is Kangin calling.

Hopeful and worried at the same time, he answers it.

"Hyung? Have you found Hankyung?"

"Yeah,” Kangin answers. And upon hearing that, Shiwon wanted to jump in joy but refrains. Smiling widely at the news, he continues to listen, “He's in the park near that restaurant we went to a few weeks ago. Do you remember? Are you near the dorms, Shiwon?"

Smiling dropping as he hears Kangin’s worried voice, Shiwon answers hesitantly, "I think so."

"How long do you think it’ll take you to get the car in the dorms?"

Shiwon wanted to ask why Kangin needed the car but refrains, "Fifteen minutes maybe. I don't really know, hyung."

"Can you make it in ten? I won't be able to carry Hankyung all the way back to the dorms."

Now that struck a cord in Shiwon. "Carry him?! What happened, hyung? Is Hankyung-hyung safe?! Is he injured? Do you need me to call an ambu--,"

"Shiwon," Kangin interrupts, "I only need you to get back to the dorms and get the car. Hankyung's fine."

"How can he be fine if you need to carry him?! Let me talk to him, hyung! Please!"

"SHIWON!" Kangin yells, impatient, "Hyung needs to get warm. Don't argue with me for now, please! Just go get the car as fast as you can."

Shiwon could only swallow thickly, suddenly afraid, "All right, hyung. I'll get back as fast as I can."

"Thank you."

It took him less than 10 minutes to get to the dorms and grab Kangin's keys from his room without answering questions.

---

Heechul thinks that Hankyung is becoming more and more like him these days.

Really, getting overdramatic over missed messages and phone calls! That was something only he thought could and would do!

Sighing, Heechul rakes a hand through his hair and looks at his reflection on a store’s window. Seeing his bothered expression, Heechul scoffs.

No matter what he says, he is worried about the other man. Out of all the members in the group, it is Hankyung who always, always cares enough to listen and talk to him. Kibum was always there, sure. But Hankyung, unlike Kibum, takes the effort to try and understand him. Kibum is a good listener, and Heechul always went to him whenever he wants someone to listen to him without spacing out. But that was it. Kibum has never been such a talkative person. So whenever Heechul wants someone to converse with, he turns to Hankyung.

There is only so much pleasure in talking by yourself, after all.

Carefully peering at alleyways and benches, Heechul strives to continue searching. It was getting cold and the streets have never been kind to anyone. Determined, Heechul walks on.

And then, before he could lose hope when he still hadn’t found any signs of their missing member, his phone rings.

He sees it’s Kangin and then hesitantly, he answers the phone, "You've found Hankyung?"

"I have. Go back to the dorms, hyung."

Heechul snorts in disapproval, "'Go back to the dorms' my ass, Kangin. Where are you? I wanna give Hankyung a piece of my mi--,"

"Hyung, I don't think it'll be good to yell at him for a while."

Heechul raises a brow in sudden apprehension, "What do you mean?"

"Just go back to the dorms, hyung. Hankyung's fine."

"I don't believe you. Let me talk to him Kangin!"

"I can't! He's sleeping, okay?! And he's really sick. I already got Shiwon to get the car so we could bring him back quickly. You don't need to worry anymore, hyung. Just go back and tell the others Hankyung-hyung's fine."

"Fine? FINE?! How can he be fine if he's sick?! Tell me where you are, NOW! I won't go back to the dorms without seeing him! I swear, Kangin! If you don't tell me-,"

"I won't budge hyung! One sick member is enough. I can't have you get sick!"

"I WON'T GET SICK! JUST TELL ME WHERE YOU ARE!"

Heechul hears Kangin sigh on the other side of the line, "This is why I asked Shiwon to bring the car. Could you calm down, hyung?! It's not like Hankyung-hyung could die from this!" And promptly closes the line.

Heechul curses in every language he knows, spits out every swear word he's ever learned in his lifetime.

When he sees Kangin, Heechul vows, he’s so gonna make the other man regret this.

---

Kangin sighs the moment he ends the line. He knows Heechul would get angry, knows that Heechul probably hates him for it already. But Kangin knows that Heechul would only worry himself more when he sees Hankyung.

Raking a hand through his hair, he looks over worriedly at his hyung. He's begun to shiver more and Kangin couldn't help but utter a curse under his breath. He isn’t that learned with fevers, but he knows that shivering is bad. Kangin hopes that Eeteuk would know what to do once they get Hankyung back in the dorms safe. And finally warm.

Kanging pulls the coat he had draped over Hankyung tighter. He couldn't let him get even more sick, right?

Chewing the bottom of his lip, he paces around, impatient for Shiwon to arrive. A minute passes by and he sees a car park in the distance. Recognizing it, Kangin takes out his phone and calls Shiwon. Another minutes passes by and Shiwon is at Hankyung's side, grabbing their hyung's arms and motions for Kangin to do the same. They drape each of Hankyung's arms over their shoulder and they move, quickly but carefully, towards the car.

Shiwon had begun cursing the moment he felt how cold Hankyung was. Kangin could only nod in agreement.

"Get him in the back seat and sit there with him. I'll drive." Kangin instructs. Shiwon nods.

With all three of them in the car, Kangin drives as fast as he can, not really worried anymore if he was caught breaking the rules.

"He's really cold, hyung." Shiwon whispers.

Kangin looks over at Shiwon using the rear view mirror. Quietly he says, "I know. Call Eeteuk. Make him prepare hot water or something. Hankyung's really burning up."

Shiwon nods as he gets his phone. He didn’t need to wait for Eeteuk to answer his call.

"Hyung? We're on our way back. I'm sorry I left in a hurry a while ago."

Over at the dorms, Eeteuk sighs in relief, "It's okay. Is Hankyung all right?"

Shiwon was silent for a while and Eeteuk's worry begins blooming yet again, "Shiwon?"

"...he's really cold, hyung. And really sick. His fever's burning. Do you think we can make it go down, hyung? I don't know what to do. He's burning but he's still freezing. I'm trying to warm him up but it only makes him squirm. What... what do I do, hyung?"

Hearing Shiwon's desperate voice, Eeteuk tries to make himself sound calm, "Don't worry too much, Shiwonie. We'll take care of Hankyung. All of us are here, right? We've always been able to make things work out. Just bring him here as fast as you can."
