Saturday came, Colin woke up late, and so did Jared. When the fairy woke up and found himself in the cushion, he looked around, confused, he didn't remember going to his cushion, he was laying on Minnie's tummy when he fell asleep, then he looked at Colin's sleeping form and smiled, silently, he got off from his cushion and jumped to the bed, as light as he was, Colin just shifted a little in his sleep but didn't wake up, instead, he turned around to face Jared and keep sleeping.
The little fairy saw his chance, he walked slowly to Colin's face and put a hand on his cheek, smiling while he looked at the sleeping Irishman, then he bent over a little and placed a soft, chaste kiss on his cheek.
“Thank you.” He whispered gently, and blushing a little, he ran back to his cushion and crawled into it, hiding under the flannel and giggling. He had no idea why he felt that way, but he was unusually happy and felt like his tiny heart would explode, he closed his eyes and fell asleep again shortly after.
He woke up a few hours later and sat on the cushion, rubbing his little eyes tiredly, Colin sat on his bed, doing the exact same thing, they both yawned at the same time and Jared scratched his head while Colin stretched a little, Minnie was also waking up and stretched her legs, yawning.
“Good morning Minnie...” Colin said, tiredly, the cat stared at him for a while and then left the room. “Good morning Jared...”
“Hmm...” Jared looked up at Colin, bleary eyed.
“Are you hungry?”
“A little, yes...” Jared yawned again and got up from the cushion, stretching a little, then he jumped to Colin's palm and was taken to the kitchen. Where Colin gave him milk and some bread. “What will you do today? The day looks very good after the rain! The sun is shinning and the sky is clear!”
“Well, I usually go jogging around the block on Saturday.”
“Jogging?”
“Yeah, trotting a little, I need some exercise, so I run around the block a little... Do you want to come so you can at least have some fresh air?”
“Sounds like a nice idea, I would very much enjoy going out for a while.”
They finished their meal and Colin opened the window for Minnie to go out, the cat left the house often, but didn't leave for long, and never went too far away, Minnie liked to stay at home rather than stay outside. Colin changed into something more comfortable and placed Jared in his pocket, where he could look at the houses and the trees as Colin jogged, eventually, Colin stopped a few blocks away from the house and Jared crawled out of his pocket, looking at everything curiously, they talked for a while since it was a lonely part of the neighborhood and then Colin placed the small fairy on his shoulder, to walk back home, and as soon as he got up, he was startled by a flash of lightning that landed at his feet and a mischievous laughter, Jared seemed to recognize it, he looked around, worried.
“I finally found you!” Said the voice, still giggling mischievously.
“I know that voice!” Jared looked around, and finally found the owner of that voice, he was sitting on a nearby tree, he wore a dark robe and black boots, his dark, transparent wings gleamed in the sunlight.
“What a troublesome little thing you've been...”
“Who's that, Jared?” Colin asked.
“His name is Robert... He's from the Unseelie court... Remember how I told you that the Unseelie did pretty evil things? Well Robert is the heir of the Unseelie throne...”
“Exactly! And it's a pleasure to see you again, little prince Jared... And his human pet...”
“Go away, Robert! And leave Colin alone!”
“Oh, you are a feisty little prince, are you not?” Robert smirked and took out a black whip. “Since I'm SO bored and you are here, I'm going to have my fun with you...”
“Colin, run!” Jared clung to Colin's shirt, urging the Irishman to run, and run he did, but of course, the dark fairy wouldn't let his fun escape, so he flew behind them and grabbed Colin's arm, lifting him away and giggling madly, Jared held on to Colin's shirt as Robert lifted them a few feet up, and when he was sure they were really far away from the ground, he looked down at them.
“It was nice meeting you both... And this game has been particularly fun, let's see if it's true that Seelie court fairies can heal anything they touch...” And with that, he left go of Colin's arm.
Jared screamed in horror, realizing that this was what his dream had been about, Colin was falling and would hit the ground and die and Jared could do nothing to save him, they would both die and Jared would never be able to thank Colin for all his kindness... A tear escaped Jared's eyes as he realized this was probably going to be the last time he'll look at Colin.
'If only I could save him... I wish I could save him... I wish I could save him with all my heart...'
Suddenly, Jared started floating away from Colin, he reached out to him and felt a tingling in his whole body, something was changing in him, and he grabbed Colin's hand and prevented him from falling, a few feet away from the ground, Colin looked at him, shocked, and Jared looked at his hands, holding Colin's arm, confused... How could he possibly?
Then he realized he was flying... His wings were moving and the tingling sensation in his body was gone... This was it! He had wished to save Colin with all his heart, and his wish to save him, to protect the one who had been so kind to him, was what triggered this whole change.
“I don't know what's going on, but whatever you do, don't let me go!” Colin pleaded, he was still a little far away from the ground, and Jared smiled.
“Do not worry, I will not let you go... You are safe now...” Jared flew down and placed Colin safely on the ground, then looked up at Robert, who looked as shocked as Colin. “How dare you play with the life of an innocent human who has done you no harm?”
“How did this happen?! You do not have the power to become a guardian!”
“I do not need power... Unlike you, I had a wish from the bottom of my heart to protect someone...”
“Nonsense... That wish is not going to save you and your little pet...” Robert took out his whip again, but when he was about to attack Jared, another whip curled around his wrist, preventing him from moving.
“Please leave the couple alone, Robert...” A gentle voice called behind him, and another blue eyed male fairy, dressed in a simple pale green robe, with long, chocolate hair, stood behind him, Robert smiled at him.
“Oh, Jude... No wonder no one wanted you in the Unseelie Court... You have such a soft spot for lovers...”
“Be gone with you, Robert! My brother is not alone!” Jared looked up and his face lit up, his brother was there, in a dark red robe with embroidered pearls and diamonds. “What you wish to solve, solve it with the future High King...”
“Shannon...”
“I'm glad I found you, baby brother.” Shannon looked at his brother and smiled, but his features grew dark when he saw Robert again. “Do not bother Jared again, Robert... He's a guardian now and can easily fight with you if that is what you want...”
“And you are surrounded right now... I see no one else from the Unseelies here...” Said another male fairy, with long, black hair and a white robe with pale green embroideries, followed by a blond female fairy with a white, vaporous gown. Robert made an annoyed face and glanced at Jared.
“You are one lucky little creature... But I'll find someone else to play with...” Robert looked at the one who had stopped him at first. “Why did you have to leave the court, Jude? I miss playing with you...” Robert flew to where Jude stood and licked his cheek, holding on to his waist possessively, Jude blushed furiously and tried to push him away, until finally, Robert left him go, winked at him and backed away, disappearing in a ball of fire and fairy dust, Jude looked away, blushing but looking annoyed, while Shannon snickered.
“Well, that was awkward... Jared...”
“Brother... I...” Jared looked at his brother for a moment, and then his eyes closed slowly and he fell on Colin's arms.
“Jared! Jared wake up!” Colin held Jared close to him, trying to wake him up, and the other four fairies flew down to where Jared was, concerned. “What happened to him?”
“I think he is fine...” Shannon took Jared's wrist. “It's because this is the first time he uses so much magic... Can we take him somewhere where he can rest a little more comfortably?”
“I can't come up with any place but my house...” Colin looked at Jared, and felt like slapping himself for thinking that he was even more beautiful now that he wasn't small.
“It is the best option for now...” Shannon said. “Please guide us...”
Colin carried Jared in his arms, he was as light as a feather, and they arrived to his house. Minnie looked at the visitors curiously, and rubber her body against Shannon's leg, purring, the High Prince looked at the feline and picked her up gently, petting her head.
“Come along...” Colin walked to his room, still carrying Jared in his arms, and placed him gently in the bed. Shannon walked inside the room and sat graciously on the edge of the bed.
“You have been taking care of my baby brother?”
“Well... Yeah... I found him in here a few days ago and he's been staying here ever since... But he said he doesn't want to leave until he thanks me for taking him in...”
“Yes... As stubborn as always, my little brother...” Shannon smiled. “He will have enough time to repay your kindness from now on...”
Jared's eyes fluttered open and he woke up to find himself back in Colin's room, but everything seemed less big... He looked around and noticed the other four fairies inside the room as well.
“Shannon! Tomo! Vicki! How... How did you all get here?”
“Well, your host brought as all here...” Shannon said, smiling and tucking Jared's hair behind his ear with his hand. “And you forgot about Jude here...”
“Oh! I'm sorry!”
“It does not matter...” Jude smiled and made a dismissive gesture with his hand.
“So... What will happen now?” Colin asked, as much as he was glad that Jared had been found, he didn't want him to leave.
“I guess... It is time for me to go back home...” Jared looked down, he wanted to cry, but then there would be flowers all over Colin's bed.
“Actually... No, you cannot go back home...” Tomo said suddenly, and Shannon nodded.
“What? Why?” Jared looked at both of them, confused.
“Well you see... You became a guardian because you wanted to protect this human with all your heart... So now you have become his guardian... You cannot go back to the village and you cannot go to the High Kingdom because only guardians and the members of the Seelie Court can be there... So you have to stay with your protected one... Unless he decides to set you free...” Shannon looked at Colin. “It is for you to decide... Do you want Jared to stay... Or do you want him to go home...”
“I... I don't know... I don't think it's for me to decide... Wherever Jared wants to be is alright for me...”
“Shannon, I want to stay...” Jared looked at his brother, determined. “Colin has been kind to me, and I want to return his kindness... I want to be his guardian...”
“Very well then...” Shannon got up from the bed, not before embracing his little brother. “We will be leaving now...”
“Our eyes will probably never see you again if you have decided to stay here...” Tomo said, petting Jared gently. “But I think you have made a good choice...”
The four fairies walked to the window. When Shannon was half way out of it, he peeked back and smiled at Jared.
“I am very proud of you, baby brother... You learned to control your magic on your own little self...”
And with that, the four of them flew out the window, leaving Colin and Jared alone in the room. Jared avoided looking at Colin, his cheeks were completely blushed, Colin smiled.
“I guess you won't be able to sleep on the cushion now...”
“Oh, I don't want to bother you! I can sleep in the couch!” Jared looked distressed, but Colin shook his head.
“No, you can't sleep in the couch, I won't allow it...”
“But...”
“This bed is big enough for both of us, so what do you say if I sleep on one side and you sleep on the other one?”
“Umm... Well...” Jared blushed again, but he had no time to reply, before he could say something, Colin was already crawling into the bed. “What are you doing?”
“I'm going to sleep of course... I'm tired and it's been a long day...”
“But... But... It's the middle of the day!”
“Even so... I'm tired and I want to sleep...” Colin curled in one side of the bed and fell asleep shortly after. Jared just sat on the bed, looking at the sleeping Irishman, and decided it wasn't such a bad idea to sleep as well, he laid back and looked at Colin sleep, then curled close to him, feeling his warmth, and fell asleep shortly after.
Jude was looking at them from a nearby roof, the fairy and the human looked so at peace together, and Jude sighed. Suddenly, he felt a pair of arms hug him from behind, a pair of arms he knew too well, and he rested his head on the other's shoulder.
“Spying on the little lovers, Jude? That's not good!”
“I was appointed to take care of them, in case you wanted to strike back, Robert...”
“Nah, they are boring... I'd rather stay here with you...”
“I'm going to stay here all night and take care of them, just in case...” Jude sighed and leaned on Robert's chest. “So you will get bored anyway...”
“Of course not... I'm sure I can find a way to entertain us...” Robert smirked and nibbled on Jude's neck. “I've missed you... Why did you leave the Unseelie court?”
“There was nothing there for me, Robert... I was not like them...”
“What about me? Wasn't I there for you?” Robert kept nibbling on Jude's neck, eliciting soft moans of pleasure from Jude. “Wasn't I there to keep you... entertained?”
“Robert...” Jude moaned, turned around slowly and wrapped his arms in Robert's neck, kissing him lovingly, the sleeping couple in the house totally forgotten to both of them.
Lucky for them, the two couples were being watched by Shannon, who grinned and flew away...
