Ack! I can't believe I forgot Okura. I think he has a nice deep vocal tone, but he also suffers from the nasal thing they all have going on to some extent. I honestly haven't paid enough attention to his singing in his earlier years, but what I did hear was pitchy back then too (ie, going sharp/flat). I did like the clips I found somewhere online of the clips they played during/before one of their concerts where he was just singing into it acapella (there are ones of maru-chan too and those are equally love)
And yes, I definitely agree that they could all benefit from some vocal training. Plus that the songs are not necessarily written for their vocal ranges. I don't get it though, because wouldn't you think that on some of their solo stuff they'd adjust the pitch of the song to match their range? ...I mean it's not a hard thing to do. You can even do it when karaoke-ing...
Anyhow, I have zero familiarity with Arashi fandom, so I'll take your word for it. Scary fans are no fun :(
As far as shipping goes, it's not really my thing either, but I do understand where it comes from. In another life I was into fanfic, slash, and BL. And I remember when I first saw people who were into like BSB/Nsync slash... and other real people slash, which I didn't get at all, and at the time really squicked me. (do people even use that term anymore? what's the current term for squick?) ....but my perspective on johnnys shipping is less rigid, because the boys play it up. So while it might not be my thing, because I see the fanservice as fanservice ... and as the boys being cute and playing it up for their fans... And I see it as showcasing their relationships as members and friends and as them being boyishly cute. I can see why other fans want to ship it though. ...I like shots of when they kiss or hug or play with each other physically, but it doesn't have to be read as they're in love and in a relationship. Especially when they kiss or do other super fanservice-y stuff - you can see they themselves are like "XD;; OMG. What am I doing XD;"
I'm not saying that it's not possible that there are johnnys which are legitimately gay. But we don't know, and JE idols do understand their fans and play up the whole thing. Anyhow, just my 2 cents.
