ANCIENT.

This is a very old bit of writing.  I wrote it in high school.  Junior year, I think.  I just wanted to put it up here to sort of kick my own ass for being so lazy with writing.  I have to get back into it, but I have trouble with beginnings.

We were playing hide-and-seek. I was huddled in your attic among photographs of ghosts and stained dress forms with waists I could fit my fingers around. You were tearing through the pantry, trying to find me. Rice was flying. There were broken bottles of vinegar and spilled detergent. When you slipped your neck broke clean in half. I was stealing little heirlooms. They weighed down my overalls until the snaps fell open. We were playing red rover. You were digging into my wrist with your nails. My hand was limp and lifeless. We were hollering the names of the smallest and most desperate and (red rover, red rover) we were playing chutes and ladders. There were red splinters in your fingers and I was slipping. You were climbing frantically to reach me and we were playing Russian Roulette. I'd forgotten to pocket the bullets. You were pointing the barrel of the gun between my eyes and we were playing hide-and-seek. Hide-and-seek and we'd forgotten the part about seeking.
