Random musing and the such

Dreams last night revolved around three central characters: Squeaky, Haru, and myself.

:D

Anyways. I've been thinking lately. My biggest goal for the upcoming year is to try and find ways to get ahead and flesh out my writing resume and my acting resume. Of course I'd like to work more on my Japanese at the same time, but that's something I can do myself. The way I plan on doing this is by creating my own work. When we were in scriptwriting, we were always told, the only way to get work is to make your own until somebody notices. We're in the age now where people get million dollar contracts after becoming a Youtube success. Or even if it's not something as big as the Kelly videos, I even know some people who made videos through high school, and in doing so were able to receive arts grants, and both ended up getting into film school easily with their self made portfolio.

Now, I've tried organizing things, but so far, it's rather difficult because I get the reply of "Oh I'd love to be involved' but then I hear little else when I try and plan a bit further (Like asking people what weekends they're free, or if they have any location suggestions). So I'm thinking I might try and make this a little more organized, and up things just a little.

What I have in mind is making something like a community where I can plan upcoming ideas. A lot of the things I'm wanting to do are simple, one day random things. And yeah, a lot of them will be around my own projects simply because I can write them in my time, and people can just get involved when they have the time. But what I really want to do it make it less of a "Oh, wouldn't this be fun..." small talk that never gets worked on, and make them things people actually act on. Because it's rather tiring to try get people to commit to things I'd really like to do, and get nothing in response.

Right now, I'm thinking the best way to do this would be through Facebook. Yes, I know, some of you don't use facebook often. Your loss. The biggest appeal to a Facebook group is the fact events can be set up, and people can RSVP so I can have a solid list of who actually wants to be involved. This will help me a lot, if people can properly commit to something and I can see the list there. It will probably also encourage me to work faster if the lists are long.
The other appeal to Facebook, and this is simply an appeal for me, is the fact that most the members of the TIP use Facebook often, and so opens up my options for people who might be willing to help. What does this mean to everyone else? Hopefully, it'll help encourage people to see this as something I'd like to take seriously when opportunities are taken by people I met through Oliver.

What I really want this to become is just a huge opportunity for all of us, and something we all can use. A network of English speaking actors, writers, and film people who are looking to get out there and do as much as they can. I'm hoping that it ends up I'm not the only one using it, that other people could be inspired to write something down, film something of their own ideas, and use the same network to get their project ideas off the ground.

What I want to know now is - if this group existed on facebook, would you join? Would you be interested in getting involved in something like this? Would you eventually be interested in working on your own projects through this kind of group?

fun projects
