Tokyo Audition Announcement
I don't know how many of you would be able to take part in this, but I'll post it just in case. Last time I posted an audition, someone actually got into the show, so I hope it happens again!
Listen to the music of the magical flute! It's calling to you! It's saying, "Follow me… follow me… to the auditions for Tokyo Theater For Children's fall show 'The Pied Piper'!" The musical theater of TTFC has been making kids smile in Tokyo for 35 years. Join the adults who make the kids laugh and you'll be paid in smiles!
Auditions for "The Pied Piper -'Find the Piper -- Pied or Alive'" will be held THIS WEEK, Thursday, Sept. 16th at the Akasaka Kumin Center between 9:30am and 12 noon. Performances are scheduled at the Tokyo American Club on Nov. 19-20, with tech/dress rehearsal on Nov. 18th. Rehearsals are usually held weekday mornings, 2-3 times a week, beginning at the end of September.
What do they need? Singers! Dancers! Actors! People who can stand still like a tree for several minutes at a time! (I. Am. Serious.) Painters! Prop builders! Whatever your talent, there is a space for you in TTFC. Probably the most fun you'll have doing theater!

TIP is looking for some enthusiastic, dedicated individuals to star in our December production of Tartuffe.
Even if your English isn't perfect, or isn't even very good, please consider coming to audition anyway. There are parts in Tartuffe for non-native speakers.

About the show

At Studio Theater Echo in Ebisu: Dec 3 - 5, 2010
At the Small Hall in NIGIWAI-ZA in Sakuragicho: Dec 9 - 12
COPRODUCTION: Tartuffe is a co-production between the Yokohama Theatre Group and the Tokyo International Players. This means that many of the rehearsals will be taking place in Tokyo, with a small number in Yokohama, and that you must be available for both sets of show dates. This will be the second co-production between YTG and TIP, the first having been William Shakespeare's R3 in 2009.
THE WRITING: Originally written by French playwright Moliere in the 17th Century, Tartuffe has been translated into and performed many times in English. This time, director Andrew Woolner has elected to create his own brand new prose adaptation to better reflect his plan for the show, and to make the play more accessible to non-native English speakers.
THE STORY: Our version of Tartuffe opens in a train station, where passengers stranded by the weather have decided to put on a play for their own amusement. They decide on Tartuffe.
Tartuffe follows the story of a family thrown into chaos by the arrival of an obviously phony holy man (Tartuffe) who has convinced the father (Orgon) to follow his every word. Laughter ensues as the family and friends of Orgon try to extricate him from this predicament.
The play ends, and the passengers must now go their separate ways, and possibly never see each other again.

WHO SHOULD AUDITION?
Anyone who wants to be involved. We're looking for all types of people, all ages, all nationalities, etc. Is your English not very good? Please come anyway, there might still be a part for you!
WHAT TO PREPARE:
Please prepare a 2 - 3 minute monologue of your choice. Choose something that you think shows off your talent. The director will probably redirect you, so be prepared to be asked to do your monologue more than once in different ways.
If English is not your first language, feel free to prepare a second monologue (also 2 - 3 minutes) in your native tongue.
You may be asked to cold read.
WHAT TO BRING:
Bring a headshot (a photo of yourself, preferably a full-page sized one, called an "8x10", but any large size will do, and small is okay if you have nothing else).
Bring a Theatre resume (if you don't have one, you will be asked to fill out a form listing your previous Theatre experience, etc.).
Your day planner or calendar (you will need to confirm availability for certain key dates).
WHAT ELSE:
The director will probably want to chat briefly with you about you, to get an idea of who you are.

As you can see, there is a LOT of theatre coming up in the next few months. There are at least four shows that will be needing stage crews, so if you can't commit to a rehearsal schedule, they're always needing a few volunteers during the week of the show. :)
