So I have been having a bit of bad luck recently with things.
Two weekends ago... in Baños, I got into a accident on my ATV. It was raining and we were going about 40-50km/h which was stupid when I lost control and skidded into the opposite side of the road. The ATV flipped and crashed on top of me... it was slightly frightening. I was lucky though... just a few scratches and bruises... there was no car passing me or coming from the opposite direction (we were on the freeway... or Ecuador's version). Also I fell into the deepest mud bank in the world. The rain made me lose control... but also saved a few of my bones. Andreanne was with me and she was really scared. She saw me flip and for the rest of that day and the next day, she kept repeating "I thought you died". The worst part was when the people at the rental place wanted to charge me $200 US to repair it. Only a piece of plastic fell off!!! Then we found out that that place was known for bad equipment. They apparently want accidents to happen so that they can charge tourists a lot of money. In the past month, 3 people died on their stuff. In the end, I didn't pay which was a small victory. They still have my papers and I will have to pay to get new ones but whatever...
Speaking of money and valuables... I got robbed this past Sunday. As much as the accident was physically painful, this experience took it out of me emotionally. I am good now... but all Sunday night and yesterday, I was a mess. They took a lot of stuff... everything big and valuable but it was never about the things. It was about being followed by a group of 5 or so boys for a block and being so scared to look back... but ignoring that feeling and telling myself that I was paranoid. It was about feeling my purse being ripped out of my hand as they bumped me to into the side of a bridge. It was about chasing them down a dark alley not thinking at all because that was a stupid move. Then, it was about emotionally collapsing and Dustin dragging me out of the alley to our bus stop... then seeing the same boys strolling in front of me with no purse and acting like nothing had happened. Yeah, I am out a thousand dollars but that wasn't the point.
Travelling... it's a bitch sometimes...
(Will update with happier news later)
