the lj spotlight community "musicshuffle" sounds like a cool idea, so I'ma do it.
But first, it's weird getting ready to move in. I only have some tiny room in Morgan and Therese's apartment because I don't have an actual room yet. We went Ikea shopping to get most of the things I need, but it's still strange to me thinking I'm not going to be seeing so many people I'm used to seeing. It makes me a little sad. Although I will be seeing some people I know, which is awesome! I'm worried about food, and I feel like it will be weird having to eat out all the time and not just sitting down happily to dinner with my parents... I guess we all have to leave some time.
Orientation week starts on Sunday, and that's when I officially go to Guelph. I'm a little sad I can't call TO home anymore, and I'm thinking of all the friends who are still in TO and are living on campus but they're still in the city, still able to see everyone else who's still in the city. I hope my university experience will distract me from these kinds of thoughts... I don't want to be sad all the time. I just need it to start, I need to be settled and then I think I will be okay.

1. "Lullaby of Birdland" - Ella Fitzgerald
Even though I have a ton of Ella from Jen in my iTunes, this one wasn't from her. This song is in the jazz songbook my Aunt gave me for christmas one year and I was learning to play it on the piano, but I liked it so I downloaded it as well. Awesome.

2. "I know where I've been" - Queen Latifah (Hairspray Soundtrack)
After watching Hairspray, it made me so happy that I went and downloaded the whole soundtrack. This song is beautiful, I love it. Queen Latifah has an amazing voice. And I was all "w00t Dufferin bridge!" when they walked under it.

3. "It's Friday I'm in love" - The Cure
I like to think it was a long time ago, and I think it was, I downloaded this song because I heard it on the radio and really liked it. Then my computer crashed and I forgot all about it. Then, my brother made a bunch of CDs for driving to, and I put them on my computer. This song just happened to be on it, and though I don't like it quite as much as I did before, it's still pretty awesome. Monday you can hold your head; Tuesday, Wednesday stay in bed; on Thursday watch the walls instead, it's Friday I'm in love.

4. "Savoy Truffle" - The Beatles
I had never heard the white album, so when Jen had it for the downloadings I was all "omgz send me so I'm not so dum!" Pretty much, the White Album is awesome. But when I first heard this song I didn't like it that much. Now I love it and somehow it gets stuck in my head a lot (I dunno, somehow I don't think it's that easy a song to get stuck in your head). What is sweet now turns so sour.

5. "I Got it bad and that ain't good" - Ella Fitzgerald
Another song from Jen, and another song that I didn't like at first. I thought it was really boring and weird the first time I heard it, but now I find this song one of the most beautiful ever. And the inflections that Ella puts on it add so much and make it that much more endearing. Though folks with good intentions tell me to save my tears, I'm glad I'm mad about him.

6. "Midnight Sun" - Ella Fitzgerald
Also from Jen. But this song is also in my jazz songbook, although I found it in there because I know the song. It reminds me of my Aunt because she lives in the Yukon, thus can see the Midnight Sun in the summer. She's also a jazz singer on the side, so I sent this song to her to learn because I thought people might appreciate it. I still don't know the result.

7. "Revolution 1" - The Beatles
Another white album song that I love. It actually reminds me of the Simpsons, because it remind of Revolution 9, which then reminds me of "numba 8 (burp), numba 8 (burp)" from the B-sharps episode. That was a good song. This song is also just really fun to sing along with.

8. "Back in the U.S.S.R." - The Beatles
I actually don't like this song that much... I don't know why, maybe I've heard it too many times. It vaguely reminds me of that night we went to see "Falcon" or whoever it was, and people were getting crazy and we followed a trail of blood to the TTC stop for a while. Weird.

9. "Honey Pie" - The Beatles
One of my first favourites from the album. It's a cute little ditty, and really quite short, but it's lovely. Is my iTunes really on shuffle? Honey pie, you are making me crazy, I'm in love but I'm lazy. It makes me think of sewing, because one late night when I was sewing something I couldn't get this song out of my head. Now I always think of it when I sew with my machine. I like this kinda that kinda music.

10. "Song Sung Blue" - Neil Diamond
This is from my Aunt, and it reminds me of the Yukon. Partly because it was on a CD I listened to all the time when I was up there, and partly because just the sound of it kind of seems like the Yukon sound. My Aunt made me two mixed CDs, but accidentally mixed up so I actually have this song twice ... it's not bad, but it's not fantastic either. My Aunt and Grandma both absolutely love Neil Diamond and every time this song plays on the CD they both start singing together. Good times.
