Cue TWLIGHT ZONE music.
As part of my grad program, we had to do an exchange with a rural school.
We went to Greenfield High School.
I knew I was in trouble when I was driving on route 2 and as we got closer, all I saw were trailers, gun stores, liquors stores and road kill cafes....
There were only 495 kids in the whole school.
It was awful.
I don't even know how the school stays accredited.
They teachers were AWFUL.
The entire school smelled like moth balls and mold.
They told us it was a very diverse school... there was not one non-white student.
I overheard a teacher talking to another teacher and she actually was talking abotu why we were there observing and she said, "They're here to observe a "rural" school."
AND SHE MADE THE AIR QUOTES AROUND THE WORD "RURAL"... like it wasn't really a cousin-f***ing town!!!
There were like 15 kids in a class.
We went to a class that we were told was overcrowded... 24 kids. 24!!!
The classes I teacher are all like 32. At least!
Kids sit on the radiator because there are no seats.
Mother of God.
It was nauseating.
