Catching up on reading

Of late my reading has become sparse and irregular. So I resolved a couple of months back to read more regularly and reduce my list of bought-but-not-yet-read books. I've managed to read five books in that time although one may not count because it's a techie book.

The best among them all, I thought, was Italo Calvino's Numbers In The Dark. It is a book of short stories - tales spun beautifully. They are littered with glances into the subconscious and provides an unexpected perspective. If you haven't read it yet, it is highly recommended.

Currently I'm reading Brighter Than A Thousand Suns. It's a very interesting book that gives you an insight into the political and cultural cloud before and during the second world war when physicists were discovering the power hidden within the atom. I'd like to know why this book wasn't part of the curriculum in school when we were actually being taught nuclear physics. Our education system is gravely askew and inadequate. How can a handful of ancient, pipe-smoking, bald men comfortably ensconced in a far away living room be deemed the right people to edict what the budding generations must learn.
