The Olympics makes me hate Channel 7 even more

Background to this rant: My tutor was like "you know, since the Olympics are in China, I thought for your next composition, you should write about the Olympics". So, during class today, I was sitting in the kitchen where we work, and was thinking about the Olympics.  Only thing that came into my head was 'I hate the TV channel that is broadcasting the Olympics in Australia.'

Channel 7, Sunrise in particular, is the worst free-to-air channel in Australia! My God, my mum loves to watch Sunrise, she thinks it's hilarious, I hate it! I hate it with a passion! They implicitly say "white Anglo-Saxon Australians are the best race that ever lived." (words taken from my sister) I hate how they're all caucasians and how they only ever talk to caucasians (I'm not against caucasians, just that talking to only caucasians isn't exactly a correct display of our society). Like, they had this segment which the bottom line was 'we are an English-speaking country. If you can't speak English, learn the language or get out of the country.' Arghhh.... Australia is not just an English-speaking country! We are a multicultural community. How would you feel if, ooh let's see, all the western countries' governments became an extreme dictatorship and you wanted to leave. The only places left to go were places like Egypt or South Africa, or Taiwan or somewhere so you fled to those countries, only to be told "oh, you can't speak our language, get out." You wouldn't really like it, would you?! Argh. So shut your mouths.

I was watching ABC children's shows maybe a month ago, and there's a segment called Rollercoaster for... um... around 10-12 year olds. They had a question that they posted to the children to respond, it was "should all countries speak English?" I was annoyed that the first answer read out was 'yes' and I was about to change channels, when the next 10 responses were "no! If we all spoke the same language, it wouldn't be fun at all!" Wow, 10-12 year old kids are talking more sense than these people on Channel 7.

Another reason why I hate Channel 7 is that when they show the Olympics, they only ever talk to Australians. How about us that are going for other countries? How about us that actually want to see how the winners who aren't Australians felt about the race? These people take 'Aussie Pride' to a level where I'm almost ashamed to call myself Australian. They even go 'well here's the actual medal scores, but here's what we think it should be.' And of course, Australia is at the top. Urgh.... they twist the information more than the Chinese government.

And then, with that bus crash in China, oh who cares about all those other athletes who got seriously injured, let's focus on that Australian doctor who came out with a couple of scratches. Ooh and look, we still have time to kill, let's go talk to those Australians who were held up in traffic because of the crash. Let's focus on how they saved everyone. Let's just NOT CARE ABOUT THOSE PEOPLE WHO MIGHT HAVE ACTUALLY DIED!

In general, I also hate how Channel 7 is so tabloid, and more over, how many people suck it up.  C'mon, people. If you want to watch the news, at least watch decent stuff, like on ABC. I know you'd find it boring, but it's so much better.
