It was pretty late to be doing the laundry, but since all you had was one pair of pants and three socks, you didn’t really have much of a choice. You made your way down the narrow staircase to the apartment laundry rooms, and when you got there, you weren‘t surprised to find that you were the only one. Everyone else was probably getting a good nights rest and preparing for tomorrow’s training, perhaps something you should be doing.
You hastily made your way to the far end of the room, searching for the triple loader, hoping to get it all done in one go. You found it, and just as you were reaching out to open it, someone else appeared out of nowhere and beat you to it. You jumped back, taking a sharp breath, surprised by the sudden appearance of a stranger in a room which you previously thought to be unoccupied by anyone but yourself. As your shock quickly subsided anger began to rise. How rude! It was obvious you were about to use that machine! Who the heck does he think he is?! You tapped the boy on the shoulder with the full intention of scolding him like there’s no tomorrow. But when he turned around, you suddenly found yourself frozen. He was so handsome. The boy was about the same height as you and slim, with dark brown hair and bangs that lightly brushed over his eyes. He stared at you, waiting for you to say something.
“What do you think you’re doing?” You finally force out.
“My laundry.” He says innocently. It doesn’t seem like he did it on purpose.
“Oh...Ok then.” You decide to let it go. It doesn’t matter anyways, there are tons of double loaders that you could just use at the same time.
After filling your machines you both sit there quietly, ignoring each others presence. Both going about your own business, you reading a magazine while he’s doing who knows what, you don’t even bother to look up and find out. That is until you hear movement, and you glance up to see him sliding down from his chair and taking a seat, on the floor in front of his washing machine. You begin to open your mouth, but pause, deciding to observe his actions before you speak.
He faces the spinning cycle of colors as he crosses his legs, and leans back on his hands. For the next few minutes, he stares at the machine, every now and then making amused facial expressions. You continue to watch him intently until he suddenly lets a giggle escape through his lips and you can no longer take it. “What the heck is so funny?!” There’s no response, he just continues staring. Now even more annoyed, you stand up abruptly, putting your magazine down. You walk over and take a seat next to him on the floor, and stare at the machine trying to see just what it is that he finds so captivating.
You’re trying so hard that it takes you much too long to realize that he’s stopped staring at the machine and now has his eyes fixed on you. You slowly begin to look at him, tearing your attention away from the spinning rainbow of colors. “What are you-” You suddenly find yourself frozen again when he presses his soft lips to yours. I don’t even know this kid, but why can’t I push him away. It just feels so right. He pulls back to you dismay, and stares at you again.
“I’m Donghae.” He says not once breaking eye contact. You swallow the lump you didn’t even know had formed in your throat before replying.
“I’m Jaejoong.”
He smiles at you before returning his focus to the washing machine. You still have no idea what he finds so fascinating about that machine, but as he takes your hand in his, and you lean your head against his shoulder, you decide that you don’t really care after all.
