Staring at my WIP is mostly making me think vaguely depressed existential thoughts about writing, which is not what I want to be doing with my brain, so I think I'll update instead. (Sure, going to bed would be a sensible option, but...yeah. After I post.)
Today I took the day off! There was reading! And socializing (of the "people come to me and I get to stay in pajamas" variety)! But before those things,
scruloose and I took down the Christmas tree and packed away most of the decorations, and he took down the outdoor lights. Look at us not needing a reminder email from the condo board! >.>
As has happened every year since we moved here, the living room now feels gigantic with the tree gone--which has been true to a lesser extent everywhere I've lived, I guess, but since our main level is so open concept and the tree basically goes in the middle, it's especially true here. It's as if we've renovated, and all it cost us was a few hours of getting sticky with sap, throwing the cats' environment all out of whack AGAIN, and vacuuming/mopping. Goodbye, Takeo!tree. You were an excellent tree.
--Tonight we're having heavy rainfall and high winds, and last I heard we're probably also getting some nasty weather on Wednesday, possibly in the form of snow. Good times.
--I'm reading my fourth novel of the year so far, which makes me happy. The second was Illuminae, which is a hefty read (although less so than it looks, since plenty of pages are light on text), but since then I've been choosing things that look like they'll be quick reads (The Awesome was last night's one-sitting read, and now I'm on Far From You), because Indexing: Reflections comes out in hard copy this week! And I desperately do not want to be in the middle of something when my copy arrives, so I'm free to pounce on it immediately. It's possible that this'll translate into reading from my purchased-and-neglected stash of graphic novels once we get the shipping notice. (Sloane--!)
(As I probably mentioned in a 2015 roundup post someplace, while I read nearly all of last year's novels from the bookcase of books I already own, most or all of last year's graphic novel/manga reads came from the library, so the purchased ones are merrily piling up. This includes, off the top of my head, a handful of Avatar: The Last Airbender installments; at least one volume each of Saga, Rat Queens, and Sex Criminals; Nimona; Seconds; Awkward...and I don't even know what else, especially since I have some haphazard things assembled from the last few TCAFs. [Most of it's stashed in the guest room.] And that doesn't even touch on the terrifying amount of manga I own but haven't read. O_O)
