Mishmash post: work status, tab sorting/AoU, warmer weather, and kittens on parade!

--Status of the three pre-TCAF freelance deadlines: 1) the rewrite that's due tomorrow has been submitted; 2) the novel proofread for Sparkler is just about done (I still have to write up some overall notes and query a few word choices); and 3) the rewrite that's due Wednesday is getting a lot of work done on it tomorrow, because so far I've only adapted the front matter. (Although that's a bigger chunk of the work than it would be for many titles, since the translation's on the short side of the spectrum and doesn't look like it'll have many tricky spots, while that series' front matter is time consuming and sometimes aggravating to work on.)

--I emailed all the editorial folks at Casual Job about an hour ago to let them know I won't be in tomorrow. :/ Here's hoping they don't have a grueling evening (it's possible that they won't!), mostly for my co-worders' sake, but also because I expect if they do I'll feel disproportionately guilty about not being there.

--Since there's absolutely no way I can get my open tabs under a semblance of control for the next...longer than I want to think about...I did some sorting and created a tab group entirely for Age of Ultron posts. >.> (Which doesn't include posts any of you wrote before I saw the movie; those ones are all tucked into Memories. La?) I think the odds that I'll manage to comment much on most AoU posts is slim, because there are SO MANY, but I'm really enjoying reading everyone's reactions, regardless of where they fall on the spectrum of "loved it" to "hated it" (and wow, what a spectrum). I'm also impressed by how many people share my feeling of "...I don't entirely know what to make of it, and therefore I want to see it again". I don't know what, exactly, that says about the movie--it's certainly not the same as "I loved it so much that I MUST see it again!!!"--but it sure says something.

(As Maggie Stiefvater just tweeted, "My, Age of Ultron sure was . . . A lot of movies.")

--I was unaware until today that last week's Elementary featured the actual Stanley cup (as mentioned by several people today, and demonstrated by this tweet from
keeperofthecup).

--On the weather front, it's actually reasonably warm these days, although still more what I'd expect from mid-April than early May. We have a forecast high of 20°C (68°F) on Tuesday! This should not seem so amazing, but there it is. (The rest of the week, the forecast high is more like 12-14°C.)

Meanwhile, Toronto's apparently looking at a high of 27°C on Friday. Not that I'm really at the point of deciding what clothing to take this weekend yet, but I'm not even sure I can remember well enough what that feels like. (I'm much better at remembering what, say, "May in Toronto" is "supposed" to feel like, which is just not that useful. Especially when you factor in things like the fact that it HAILED two TCAFs ago. Oh, yes, Toronto. I remember. *side-eyes*)

--Tonight, for the very first time, we took Claudia and Jinksy outside on their new harnesses and leashes. We stayed out for maybe half an hour, and since Kas was with us, yes, there are pictures that I'll be sharing at some point. Surprisingly, Jinksy did better with it than Claudia did.
scruloose had his leash, and Jinksy got a feel for how the leash worked and struck off to see the world (or at least the common "yard" area of our condo corp). I had Claudia, and she was much more inclined to go slowly. I don't think she was terribly nervous, but she didn't really adjust to the leash like Jinksy!bear did. We think it's her usual ferocious dislike of being restrained in any way; she'd move suddenly and reach the end of her leash before I could move easily with her, and seemed very displeased every time. (She also kept trying to go under the fences that are meant to give an illusion of privacy/little "patio" area for each townhouse, and that didn't really work well.) Both kittens wound up a bit overstimulated, I think, but hopefully not too much so. We brought them in and gave them treats, and they seemed fine.

I think the plan, insofar as we have one, is not to take the beasties out every day, but to do it reasonably often if they like it. I don't want it to be part of their daily routine, mainly because I don't want them to feel deprived or thrown off if they don't get it consistently, but hopefully it can be a normal thing for them.
