So that was Christmas [mishmash post]

scruloose is on vacation until New Year's, as are both
wildpear's husband and Kas. *^^*

--Ginny is here as of yesterday, which doesn't literally make everything right with the world, but certainly makes things a lot better. ^_^ She arrived in the afternoon, early enough to go to our local friends' group's Christmas dinner while
scruloose and I were still off at my parents' place for most of the day. When we got there a few hours later,
wildpear (whose husband picked Ginny up at the airport) nodded at the couch where Ginny and a few other people were hanging out, and said, "Look what we found!" I looked and was briefly very puzzled, because seeing Ginny with our friends here (and Ginny being part of that "our") is so right and normal that I couldn't figure out what
wildpear meant. *g*

--Christmas itself was very low-key, which was fine. I may post more at some point about spending the day with my parents. We'll see? But
scruloose cooked dinner, which meant duck! (Duck two suppers in a row!!! *twirls* Duck!)

Seeing their cat was bittersweet. Highway (they didn't name him >.<) is a 19-year-old Siamese they adopted along with his littermate back when the brothers were 14 or so; they'd previously belonged to neighbors across the street who had too much going on to give the cats enough attention, and my parents liked the cats, so it worked out. Cyan, the brother, died after a year or so, but Highway's still kicking. He's clearly old, and has some health issues, but he still seems engaged and pleased to spend time with people.

scruloose and I have never been close to Highway, since we're at my parents' place so rarely, and for the same reason, it's quite possible that yesterday was the last time we'll see him. My parents don't think he'll last all that much longer. It won't be a huge blow for us when he dies, but it'll be sad, and there's a note of extra poignancy for us in that yesterday was our first visit since
scruloose has been on the maintenance dose of allergy desensitization shots, so he was able to hang out with and pet Highway far more than he'd been able to before. Oh, the timing.

--Today
scruloose dyed my hair for the first time since...oh, August, probably. And I feel so much better. It's amazing to me how much difference having my hair properly red makes! I've had a box of dye all along, but my specific color has proved elusive, so I was kind of hanging on to that one box until I can get another one. We went into the biggest grocery store (I think) in the city when erranding a couple of weeks ago, and they had three! whole! boxes!, so I cleaned 'em out.

--On the reading front, I've now read all three Raven Cycle books that're out and am waiting for the last with the rest of you who've read them. I haven't fallen in love to the extent that
wildpear and Ginny have, but they're wonderful books. *^^*

--On the watching front, I caught up on The 100 a few days ago, and since this post is about a whole smattering of stuff, I'm not going to talk about the spoilery stuff, but I'm pleased by how the mid-season finale ended for a couple of rather different reasons.
