December Meme post #1: three questions!

Dec 02, 2014 23:31

I love (no, seriously) how so many people are doing this meme and there are a gazillion variations in what we call it. ^_^

It's nearly 11 PM and I'm just starting this (how the hell did I wind up deadline-crunched again? It was only two days off! ;_;), but what with the deadlines going into next week,
bosonator arriving in just over two weeks (!!!), and then Ginny coming at Christmas--and oh, yes, the actual holidays--I'd better get cracking on the meme anyway. (Yeah, I reserve[d] the right to carry topics over into 2015, but still. Starting! Good!)

calissa asked me three questions and they're all fairly simple, I think, so I'll do them all in one go.

"Metaphorically or otherwise, what season are you currently in and how is it manifesting for you?"

I'm gonna take this one literally. ^^ Nova Scotia is currently in its messy phase where very late autumn and early winter are vying for dominance. It's often gray and dreary out, with at least a threat of rain; we haven't had any real snowfall yet, but there've been flurries here and there. And the temperatures are all over the place!

This evening it's been around -9°C (16°F), with a windchill around -14°C (9°F). The overnight low will apparently be 2°C (36°F). Tomorrow it's supposed to go up to 11°C (52°F) and rain; the next day it'll be between today and tomorrow's temperatures and will theoretically be sunny. The weather'll likely zig-zag like this for...I don't know, another couple of weeks. I don't know when real snow is likely to hit, never mind hit and stay.

Favourite tea blend?

Super-easy one! ^_^ Upton Tea's Mélange de Chamonix. (The site says "Fine India tea is blended with cocoa, cardamom, and a hint of cinnamon to produce a balanced and warming cup. A delicate treat for any chocolate or tea lover.") I have a respectably-stocked tea cupboard, at least in terms of flavored black teas, but these days I drink this one vastly more often than all the others combined. I literally order it by the kilo. (I think my last order was 2.5 kilos, to be precise.)

Any anime/manga recommendations?

This one's harder--not because I don't have any recs, but because I've fallen so thoroughly out of the anime/manga loop (other than the manga titles I'm actually working on). So I can readily tell you my favorite anime series (Revolutionary Girl Utena) and favorite manga series (Fruits Basket) and rec plenty of older or current-and-long-running titles, but I'm not remotely up to date.

But given that, if I just list the ones that come to mind first and don't try to go into them, I can come up with something! Let me know if you'd like me to actually try to explain why anything is on the list (although it could take me a while to do so).

Anime: Revolutionary Girl Utena, Evangelion (original, not the current rebooted movie franchise. The series is riddled with problems and saddled with two endings I dislike...and yet), Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Trigun, Ouran High School Host Club, Princess Tutu, Madoka Magica, Princess Jellyfish, Monster, Whisper of the Heart, My Neighbor Totoro, [bunches of other Ghibli movies, but bear in mind the last one I saw was Howl's Moving Castle, so again, out of touch]

Manga: Fruits Basket, X* (with caveats), Tokyo Babylon, Yotsuba&!, Kimi ni Todoke, Evangelion (I prefer it to the show), The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service, High School Debut*, Sand Chronicles, Rurouni Kenshin, After School Nightmare, Fullmetal Alchemist, Hikaru no Go, Genshiken, Monster, NANA, Basara, Paradise Kiss, Please Save My Earth...and I'm gonna stop there.

*Things I worked on in some capacity. Specifically, I adapted vol. 3-6 of the new X omnibus edition, and adapted vol. 14-15 of High School Debut, which are bonus post-series volumes that have never been released independently in North America but will be part of the current 3-in-1 release.

I should mention that I work on/have worked on quite a lot of titles that I really enjoy, but am only naming those two because they're both series I was a fan of well before I got to be professionally involved. For the most part I feel just a bit too weird about tossing things I've worked on into rec lists. Whee, neuroses!
