Tomorrow is haircut day. I'm way too excited about this, especially since (barring incident) we'll dye my hair on the weekend. I've probably dyed my hair since I've cut it (red dye fading as it does >.>), but I think I haven't cut it since before Casual Job started up in the fall. It's been harder than usual to convince myself to get it done since I had the buzz cut, because the growing-out process is such a pain that I know there's only so much that even my wonderful stylist can do with it. (I don't remember if I mentioned that the last couple of times she only charged me for a men's cut, because she couldn't do much other than shorten the back up completely and tidy my bangs.) But maybe, maybe, my bangs are long enough now that she can work with them some. They're at about my cheekbones now, and I need them down to my jaw for the bob I like.
I'm all unfocused (shocking, I know), and since the solution to posting despite that is so often memes, I'm stealing this one from
spikedluv.
1. How's the weather where you are? Right now--past midnight--it's misty and humid, according to the internet. This afternoon and evening it rained like hell, but at least it wasn't snowing. (HAIL THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING, Nova Scotia-style! *shivers* It'll almost certainly be a month or so before I'm at all convinced spring will ever come again.)
2. How are you feeling? Uh...groggy and unfocused! And frazzled about going back to the office in a week (and about the amount of work I need/would like to get done beforehand), but the good news there is that I deal much, much better with being at Casual Job than I do with the short-term buildup to it.
3. Is there anything you'd like to rant about? Hmm...not really.
4. Have you done anything exciting over the last seven days? Nope! It was a perfectly good week, all told, but not exciting.
5. Have you done any writing and do you want to tell me all about it? *coughs* So...the Newsflesh + psychic wolves AU fic kinda wound up on hold over the last couple of weeks, because Seanan did that thing she does where she made an offhand mention somewhere (Tumblr, in this case) of fic she would love to know was out in the world for her work, but isn't. (It's really adorable how excited she gets about fanwork for her stuff, given that she can't read any of the fic. She's just so pleased and giddy about it.)
This isn't the first WIP I've got as a result of her making one of those comments. (The other one is my first-ever and far-from-complete attempt at slash and my first attempt at writing a "pairing" I don't ship. ["Pairing" gets scare quotes because there's no romance, there's no pretense of anything like those feelings, and they both know there's no chance it's going anywhere. In context, that doesn't mean it's a bad idea.]) But this time, Seanan's comment involved the words "Newsflesh" and "Little Mermaid AU", and...yeah, I just wrote that down. The nod at The Little Mermaid is very, very slight, though. (But it's a nod that made
wildpear's eyes light up, which I take as a good sign.)
As for the actual fic...Shaun is human. Georgia isn't. Shaun thinks he's fascinated, but it's really just as well he can't see inside her head; if he could see how fascinated she is, he might get scared of winding up dissected just so she can see how he ticks. (There is no dissection. Just a lot of intense curiosity on both sides. Also, they meet when they're about ten...but if she really wanted to, I wouldn't put "reading up on and learning how to perform dissections" past Georgia at that age, whether she's half fish or not, so the "being ten" part could be irrelevant. ANYWAY.)
All that said, there's been very, very little writing this past week. Because deadlines.
6. Have you made any wonderful art? I'm not sure if this question is amusing or sad, given my utter lack of artistic ability, but the answer is no.
7. What are your plans for the weekend? We're going to a Friday night birthday party. (If it weren't a birthday--for three people, at that!--the odds are good I'd back out, because ACK DEADLINES, but it is. And I've skipped out on a lot of things recently.) Other than that, dyeing my hair and maybe doing some organizing around the house, plus a lot of rewriting work. And if I get a draft in time, maybe a few episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender Sunday night.
scruloose and I are showing it to
wildpear, her husband, and Kas, and we just started season 3 last week. *fidgets*
8. Seen any good movies lately? Veronica Mars!!! My media log says it's the only movie I've seen this year. O_o But if that's the first and Winter Soldier is gonna be the second, I'd say that qualifies 2014 as off to a strong start.
9. Read any good books? I finished reading Maggie Stiefvater's The Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy, and I loved it. I'm a bit sad that the companion book coming out in June is apparently focusing on a character I'm not terribly invested in, but so it goes. I'm looking forward to it anyway.
10. What's floating your boat on TV? Elementary and The Good Wife are holding steady as my two favorite current shows, and this season I'm following Hannibal as it comes out, which is a much different experience that seeing it all at once when no one's posting about it, as I did with season 1. And Parks and Recreation still makes me laugh an awful lot.
