Lush trip

It's really kind of impressive that I enjoy Lush stores, given how hands-on the staff are trained to be--which I mean literally, if you've never been to one. They check first to be sure it's okay, but yesterday I wound up having two of the things I picked up (the Charity Pot lotion and the Sugar Scrub, uh, scrub) briskly and efficiently applied to a hand by friendly store clerks so I could see what they're like. If you combine the general rule that I hate being touched by strangers with the fact that I've never had a bad experience at the hands of Lush staff, you can see why I'm impressed by the chain's success in hiring/training people I get a good feeling from.

When
seolh and I got to the mall yesterday, we didn't actually know where the Lush was, and since it's not a huge mall, we meandered around idly in search of it. (Mall directory? What?) I was operating under the assumption that we would be able to smell it from halfway across the mall, because that's the nature of Lush, in my experience. (My friend K. is appallingly sensitive to many scents, and when a Lush came to a mall near her several years ago now, she couldn't go into the same wing as it.) And yet we stumbled across it when
seolh saw the sign, and couldn't smell it until we were about two feet from the door. They obviously have some amazing ventilation in there, because as soon as we went in we were hit with the usual wall of "these are some lovely smells, but far too many in one space" (which I cope with fine, but I understand how some people who don't even have sensitivities can only handle it in very short bursts).

I wound up with...a fair bit of stuff. (I got the smallest possible size of everything that came in sizes, but still. o_o) OTOH, I think this may have been my first shopping trip made specifically to go to Lush, other than a time or two when I made a point of ducking in to try their henna bricks (which I didn't love; plain, pure body-art-quality henna was always my best experience), despite occasionally stopping in for something like twelve years now. (And
seolh and I escaped without doing any other shopping.) But I think that's all the shopping I'm likely to do outside of my normal list of things (groceries, cat stuff, media) until I'm next in Toronto.

cleo asked what I came home with, so I've put a list together.

--a Tea Tree toner tab
--a Dream Steam toner tab
--Charity Pot body lotion
--Ultrabalm
--T for Toes dusting powder
--Popcorn lip scrub
--Whoosh shower jelly
--No Drought dry shampoo
--Ocean Salt scrub
--Sugar Scrub
--You Snap the Whip
--Putty for Your Hands
--Sparkle Toothy Tabs
--Yuzu and Cocoa bubbleroon

And I was sent home with samples of Grease Lightning and Enchanted Eye Cream.

(Alas, the Chocolate Whipstick lip balm was out of stock. It was on my list of things to consider, and smelling the sample convinced me I would definitely have wanted it. Oh, well.)
