Year in review: 2008 output (fandom and professional)

Jan 01, 2009 16:02

This time last year I made two separate "output for the past year" posts, but my fanfiction was so sporadic in 2008 that it boils down to "click on my 30 Kisses tag and look at the last five entries". (That's five Haru/Rin fics, ranging from ~700-6000 words; two are set during the series, two are after the main events of the series, and one is post ( Read more... )

I actually read your post this afternoon and left it open in a tab in case I thought of something to say (so I was surprised to check back and find her mentioning me ^^), and I'm still thinking. So close to the end of the series, I have trouble talking about it without also talking about how things wind up--not that I accidentally toss spoilers in, but there're always things I want to mention that happen later. If something comes to mind, I'll definitely comment over there. ^_^

Sorry for the slightly random comment-was browsing around, being nosy and curious about you awesome folk who work on manga for a job, and saw your mention of Zig*Zag. I just picked up the first volume of Venus in Love by the same author at a bargain bookstore (which are wonderful for impulse buys but get me into trouble by getting me hooked on series I have to pay full price for the rest of... haha) and fell in love, and so went and ordered the first three volumes of Zig*Zag. I'd been eying the pretty pink-and-purple covers for a while already, so I was easily swayed... I do hope they continue publishing it one of these days!! What did you think of the series, from what you've read?

*g* I don't mind drop-by comments at all. Hmm...I haven't read Venus in Love, so I can't make a comparison. I think Zig*Zag is fluffy but enjoyable shoujo; it's not groundbreaking, but the characters are mostly very likable. And my brother likes it, so it can't be too girly. ^_-

For the record, I didn't work on any of the volumes that have been released (although I've read all of them, of course)--I took over with volume 4. I hope that it gets put back on the schedule eventually, too, but I'd guess it'll depend on how the economy goes. :/ All we can really do is keep buying the books we enjoy and hope for the best, I guess.

Hee, thanks for the reply!! Mostly what I'd seen in reviews for both series went along the lines of "happy sweet happy shoujo," and right now that's exactly the sort of thing I'm in the mood to read. So I'm looking forward to it. Aw, but man, I can't imagine my brothers reading any of my girly shoujo manga! Lucky you :D

You're right, gotta keep on buying manga! I like to do my economic duty when it's something like this. I'm looking forward to more Shinobi Life~

My brother has fairly flexible tastes. ^^ When I was first getting into anime, he and his friends were directly responsible for hooking me up with fansubs of Sailor Moon, which was my gateway series (...and which tells you how long ago that was).

I'm looking forward to more Shinobi Life too--I'm hoping to work on vol. 3 sometime soon.
