Summary: The man was curled under a thick blanket, hugging a pillow close to his body. Yoochun entered soundlessly, his bare feet padding along the cold floor. The sweet scent of mint cocoa filled the air as he handed his best friend a warm mug.
JaeJoong accepted, however, he neither smiled nor thanked him which was unusual for the normally polite singer.
An angel's face consumed by darkness, pale skin lit only by a gentle blaze that illuminated but a fraction of the man's cheek. Locks of raven hair swept over his eyes so that his expression remained a mystery, though the air about him was oddly sullen. The only sound that could be heard aside form his steady breathing and the quiet crackle from the fireplace was that of a man's voice playing over the radio. The weekly weather report - as though the community couldn't already predict what was coming.
It had been a week of continuous rain and sleet and it showed no signs of slowing. It was almost as though a blanket of ice had been wrapped around the city and the gods were reluctant to remove it.
The man was curled under a thick blanket, hugging a pillow close to his body. Yoochun entered soundlessly, his bare feet padding along the cold floor. The sweet scent of mint cocoa filled the air as he handed his best friend a warm mug.
JaeJoong accepted, however, he neither smiled nor thanked him which was unusual for the normally polite singer.
'Just fourty miles out of town a fatal accident continues to hold up traffic along high---'
Yoochun moved to turn down the radio, taking a seat across from the couch which JaeJoong sat, "How are you doing?"
JaeJoong didn't answer, his gaze still fixated on the flames that licked the edge of the fireplace. It was beginning to burn low and Yoochun wondered how long it would be before it finally extinguished.
"Yunho should be here soon," Yoochun continued, concerned at the lack of life being shown from his band mate, "I talked to him a little while ago. He's excited to see you."
'A man who will remain unnamed was killed instantly in the crash. Passengers of the other vehicle have been taken to the hospital with what appear to be non life-threatening injuries. Black ice and poor visi--'
"It's a shame, isn't it?" Yoochun reached to turn off the radio, "A fatal accident this close to Christmas."
"Did he say anything about me?" JaeJoong still did not turn his eyes from the fire, his voice low.
The lovers had been in a rather intense argument for the past few weeks, having only recently made up. Yunho planned to travel down to the house that Yoochun and JaeJoong shared to spend the holidays with them. Junsu and Changmin had also agreed to come, but the two of them lived in the neighborhood and it was expected.
"He said that he misses you," Yoochun smiled, moving to sit next to the oddly silent man, "He said that he can't wait to see you."
JaeJoong sipped ever so slightly at the cocoa from the warm mug before taking one of Yoochun's hands into his own, caressing it softly with his thumb.
"Boo, are you alright?" Yoochun moved closer to his friend, pulling the blanket over himself as well, "You miss him, don't you?"
"Wha... what else did he say?" JaeJoong's voice cracked and it was only now that Yoochun noticed the tears that had begun to flow down his cheeks.
"Boo? What's wrong?" Yoochun placed a warm hand against the older man's cheek, wiping away the salty tears with his thumb, "Why are you crying? Don't cry, Boo. He doesn't blame you for anything. He said that if anything he wished that he could just hold you in his arms at every second and that that's what he was going to do the moment he walked through the door. He loves you so much, please don't cry. He will be here soon and you will spend Christmas together. He lo--"
A loud thud echoed through the room as the cocoa that Yoochun had made for him hit the hard wood, the warm liquid spilling out onto the floor. JaeJoong's hand tightened its hold on Yoochun's as he struggled to find words.
As the low fire finally went out, JaeJoong's voice could barely be heard as the words slipped out.
"He's dead."
