Hey, I hope someone here will help me! I'm planning to take a summer course at UM because I have to fill either my science or art general requirements. I was wondering if you could give me any thoughts if you've taken a similar course at UM and/or know the professor

DiResta is good. He's the head of the undergrad Marine Science dept. He can be serious... ie doesn't really joke around too much.. but he knows what he's talking about for sure and will always answer questions =]

Awesome! So do you think a class with him would be difficult... I'm really not into science at all but I'm trying to fill a G.E. requirement (haha I sound like such a slacker). I just don't wanna get stuck with something that's way more intense than I wanted :\

Well, I'm a marine science major so I think Osh is ridiculously easy...

It's a survey class though. Even from a not science standpoint I'm sure it'll be pretty basic. I took a similar course last semester... I didn't open the textbook once.

I took Hollander's class in the spring, and he's a really great professor in my opinion. It's not too hard, but you do have to memorize the slides which can be tedious. His exams consist of slide identifications and comparisons, so it's important to pay attention. There's one big assignment, which is a visual analysis paper based on a piece of art you choose from a visit to the Lowe Art Museum. Sometimes, he gives small homework assignments, but they're pretty easy. He's very readily available, willing to help, and knows his stuff. He does crack jokes a lot, though. So, it's an easy balance between serious discussion and a light-hearted feel.
