Just saw something on tv that really pissed me off. Its not a real big thing but its a sticking point with me and something that i tend to butt heads with people over.
It was a commercial for a brand of milk formula for kids to take between baby-ness and toddler-dom. The ad featured an animated bear holding her young child and talking about how she had trouble getting him to drink milk after his initial infancy. In any case, it goes on to explain that this milk product is the "natural step for your child between breast milk and cow's milk." And thus we come to my problem with the advertisement. I'm sorry if i'm going to piss people off with this but... frankly... tough... i'm still yet to have anyone sufficiently explain to me why or how it is necessary or natural for human beings to drink something which is produced by a female cow expressly for the nutrition of her young while they are in early developmental stages of their lives. I don't have a particular problem with people drinking the stuff... people can do whatever they wish... i do have an issue with people telling me that it is 'natural.' I will drink it occasionally although i cannot drink it very much or have too much in the way of dairy products in general as i'm lactose intolerant. Most people naturally are lactose intolerant to some degree i'll also point out. There's a reason why people from asian countries and specifically those from places such as Japan, Korea and China generally live longer lives than westerners and why they're healthier for longer and also why there are less instances of afflictions such as cancer in those demographics. I'll give you a clue... it isn't simply due to the diet they subsist on including lots of nuts and legumes and soy products, fish, meat, eggs, rice and a plentiful supply of anti-oxidant enriched fruits and vegetables. It's because these people don't naturally have dairy in their diet or do so in extremely limited quantities. Go out and seek the literature of Professor Jane Plant (i'm pretty sure that's her name) if you doubt me. There've been cases of people who've developed cancer, been diagnosed and had their cancer go into remission upon them eliminating dairy from their diet. Similarly to people being vegetarians and vegans. I have absolutely no problem with this... i honestly think that i would also be a vegetarian if only i didn't like meat as much as i do. Having said that, i make a conscious decision to buy and eat only meat which is either organic, fed on non-genetically modified stock or, as Chrissy and i call them 'happy-cows', that is, animals kept within certain living conditions (for example, only free range or barn chickens). Don't however tell me that we're not supposed to eat meat, that eating meat is not a natural thing for us. My argument is this, we have canine teeth for one purpose and one purpose only, for ripping and tearing tissue, muscle and meat. All carnivores and omnivores have canines. If we were physiologically meant to be vegetarians, our mouth would have nothing but molars in it for crushing grains and grasses etc. Secondly, one of the primary ingredients in green plant life is cellulose. Our stomachs lack a vital protein to digest cellulose properly.
sorry... just got a bit of a bee in my bonnet about the whole milk thing.
On a much cooler note, Chrissy and i now officially have appointments for our first tattoo consultations. Sweet!
