Ok, well so far we're into the second week of the independent film we're making with a guy from uni and the real miracle is that nothing's gone really wrong. I say we're making the film with him when i really mean that Chrissy and I are actually just the sound crew. Mike's the writer/director and sharing the production role with some other girl from uni last year who's also the AD but seems to be doing nothing at all to be helping the production along. In Mike's defence, it is his first time and i know that it can be a massive learning curve but there are a lot of simple things that can be done to help things along in the right direction that seemingly just aren't being thought of. For a start he's got proper actors from the conservatory in town and they're the ones bringing coffee and biscuits for the remainder of the cast and crew. Really he should have a basic catering table set up for the day with coffee, biscuits, and maybe some hame and bread and stuff for people. We've been arriving in the mornings for the shoots and just kinda twiddling our thumbs for about 2 hours before anything starts happening. And even then... there's still abut an hour of stuffing about with rehearsals and wondering where the camera's going to go for each shot. Everything like that should always be done well in advance... the actors should have worked with the director beforehand and run through their scenes and have them blocked and drilled ad nauseum so later on it's a case of get the camera out and start shooting straight away... no head-scratching for about an hour wondering how the scene's going to be done. Camera setups should be done and marked out beforehand so everyone knows exactly what to do when shooting starts and if people aren't needed until shooting then why bother have them sitting around for hours getting anxious and pissed off waiting around doing nothing? There's a fair bit of make-up involved for the extras and on saturday nite there were about a dozen of them... filming started at around 7ish but they weren't really needed until more like about 9. I understand that it takes about 30-45 minutes for each of them to get made up so why in that case were they all sitting around on-set since at least 4 if not earlier that afternoon. Basically, they'd been onset, doing pretty much nothing for about 5 to 6 hours and not getting fed in that time either. That's not cool... i think Mike seriously needs to start looking out, specifically for the actors... if they decide "Fuck this... i'm walking off-set" then he's completely screwed... stagger the actors and when they arrive... if you don't need someone on-set to do something... then the more people you have on-set... then that just means that there's a higher likelihood that something's going to go wrong or someone might even get hurt... and on a film set without proper insurance... that's a big, bad thing. And sorry... if something does happen... you're on your own Mike... i ain't wearing any of that blame.
People that want things both ways really shit me...
Yesterday was fairly low key for Chrissy and i but nice nonetheless... we're both incredibly broke so nothing terribly esciting doing in the going out stakes... that'll have to wait a few weeks while she gets more hours at her new job... but it's all good. We went to the video store in the morning and got a few vids to watch... we finally saw Crash which was really cool but frustrating that people are so racist. The other one we saw was Red Eye... it was ok... not brilliant but ok. Still yet to see Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind which was another one we got. We were going to go to the movies and see probably Jarhead... which probably would've been nicer but it was still kinda cool to just chillout and watch a few DVD's at home with her. Over the weekend i used some cash i'd been saving up to buy tickets for Funeral For A Friend on March 31 and Infected Mushroom on March 4. They cost me like $230 but hopefully it'll all be worth it on the nite.
Poeple... go see Munich... it's cool.
