Time spent on math today: 3 hours 10 minutes
50 minutes in the morning meeting with a professor about measure theory and analysis and set theory stuff
90 minutes in representation theory class thinking about tabloids and symmetric functions
10 minutes in the evening thinking about the coloring problem (my idea: perhaps the result for measurable sets might actually be enough, since maybe given arbitrary sets we can make a (possibly nonmeasurable) permutation of the reals to make them measurable; however, it's not true that an arbitrary subset of the plane can be made measurable by some permutation (a counterexample can be constructed using Cavalieri's Principle assuming all sets of size <2^{\aleph_0} have measure zero)).
20 minutes in the evening thinking about ultrafilters (thanks, Kenny!)
20 minutes looking at random math stuff on wikipedia
I hope the Cardinals win tonight. Not because I'm a Cardinals fan (though I am), but because it would show the world how idiotic the 3-division system is (except of course that it's good for making money, which is all that actually matters).
Eurgh, why does lj keep thinking I'm in GMT?
