The Power(book) is back!

I am one happy woman. If you had spoken to me on Monday, that would not have been the case. Because on Monday, I found out that my Powerbook had not been delivered to the Apple repair depot last week, as promised. DHL had, in fact, lost it. In the past year, I have had two items of great value shipped by DHL. Neither one has arrived in anything near what one would consider a prompt or efficient manner. I will never use DHL to ship anything. Ever.

Once I discovered the missing Powerbook, the "geniuses" at the Apple store couldn't give me the tracking number because: "The guy who does that went home for the day."

Tha's right, boys and girls. Apparently, no one at the "Geniusbar" is capable of hacking into the store computer and finding out a fucking tracking number because the "shipping guy" was gone. I not-so-politely informed the non-genius on the phone that I could get that kind of info at my office even if I hadn't done the shipping and even though I'm not employed as a, you know, GENIUS. Properly chastened, he dragged his dumb ass over to the Geniusbar and somehow got the info.

Honestly, what kind of a company makes employees say things like, "I can ask the Genius" or "You might want to make an appointment with the Genius." Really? Because you might want to consider ending the use of that fucking stupid, arrogant, pretentious, embarrassing, completely unwarranted and did I mention stupid title/gimmick.

Hmm - sorry, that was somewhat bitter, given the fact that once the Dumbos at DHL delivered the thing, the "Geniuses" had it back and working in two days. And now I can use my computer and not prop the screen up with a decorated brick (don't ask). And I can play DVDs without having to load them 50 times. I can finally, after two years, burn CDs and DVDs, which I was supposed to be able to do all along. Mostly, it's just fun to see all the white space on my screen actually in white, and not fuchsia!

Speaking of making your eyes bleed, what has happened to cause the recent spate of ugly, disturbing Casey-love in the SVU fandom? Did I miss the episodes where she displayed some kind of warmth, intelligence, grace, poise, skill or ability to walk and talk at the same time, or even separately? And why, oh why, do people insist that Casey and Elliot would make a good pair? And why do they then insist on writing it?

Also, please read this and tell me I'm not the only person who thought that the title was going to refer to something other than mustard.

Not sure how many folks on my f-list watch House, but I taped this week's episode, because I was sick of trying to watch it in between Scrubs commercials. And boy, what a disappointing week to tape. Cameron is just a boring, embarrassing, uninteresting mess. I have no idea why she came back - I missed that episode. And I never wanted to see House the romantic. But if he absolutely must have a love interest, I can't wait for Sela Ward to get to Princeton and blow Cameron out of contention.

Finally, the L Word. It's a confounding show. They've wasted most of the season trying, apparently, not to be a soap opera and therefore leaving out pretty much any conversation of interest the viewers might have wanted to see. Not to mention the sex. But then this week, the writing and acting for the scenes of Melvin's death were both heartbreaking and life-affirming. So you think, "Wow, good show." Except there's Jenny.

Her storyline really bothers me and I haven't seen much discussion of it. (I can't keep up with the TWoP discussion because it's such an insider's club.) In the show's neverending quest to make Jenny a tolerable character, they are now invoking the Holocaust. I assume the writers are trying to make some valid points about suffering and pain and identity, but it all comes off as a cheap, offensive (IMO) attempt to do anything to make us like this character and to feel sympathy for her. It's like, "Now you MUST stop mocking her because we've played the H-card." It's just so manipulative and cynical and also? Ineffective. Almost two full seasons in, and all I want is for Jenny to go have an S somewhere else.

Phew - that felt good! Having Power is good!
