Recent Developments In The Commercialization of Space

Dec 15, 2005 04:15

Virgin Galactic has announced plans to build the first commercial spaceport in New Mexico. This is especially interesting when coupled with Space Island Group's plans to build industry on the high frontier. Both of these companies deal with Low Earth Orbit(LEO) commercial space endeavors. In another story, the European Space Agency recently announced that it is developing a plasma engine that could pack much more thrust than conventional ion engines. Who knows? The commercialization of the space race may extend past LEO if the corporations ever get plasma engines of their own. All we need is some way to halt the bone decalcification that the human body undergoes during prolonged exposure to zero gravity.
