The Current Iraq Picture

Dec 11, 2005 20:45

As things stand, the Iraqis are getting ready to elect a new parliament and the U.S. Senate is unsure about a troop withdrawal from Iraq, basically waiting to see what the outcome of the election will be. Amid this, the four christian Peace activists are still missing, radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr is back, and Saddam Hussein is actually managing to stir up trouble for the election process from behind bars. Furthermore, Iraq looks like it won't pump as much oil as hoped due to terrorist attacks on the Iraqi oil infrastructure.

Elsewhere in the region, Iran is seriously trying to see how much they can piss off the rest of the world and a Saudi official is talking out of both sides of his mouth.

There's a lot riding on this election, people. But more than that, if the Iraqis want democracy they had better grow some balls and fight for it.

Anybody got some good news about the war they'd like to share with me?

crime and punishment, politics, war, terrorism
