Somewhere, beyond the sea
Somewhere waiting for me
My lover stands on golden sands
And watches the ships that go sailing…
He couldn’t remember how he’d gotten roped into this.
No, that was a silly statement, he did remember.
He just didn’t remember why he’d made the decision to stay.
Arthur had long gone: as soon as he was sure he’d get recommendations from superior officers if he ever needed them, he’d packed up and left, leaving Gilbert; poor, long suffering Gilbert, a lowly midshipman in His Majesty’s navy.
Gilbert couldn’t stand the British.
He couldn’t stand their arrogant air and the way that, no matter how well he perfected his English, poured too much sugar in his tea in an attempt to mimic the other sailors, and addressed his letters home to mother instead of Mutter, he would always be an inferior foreigner to them. The Prussian.
And perhaps that was why one day, whilst gazing out to sea and breathing in the salty air, Gilbert decided he’d had enough.
He wanted to see Elizaveta again.
She stood on the beach, idly watching the foam tickle her toes.
A letter had arrived yesterday, and she could do nothing but laugh at the way the author had attempted to write in Hungarian, then, failing that, reverted into German. It recounted the stories of many exploits at sea, and even included little details that any normal woman would not have found interesting at all: how to tie a proper knot, the correct terminology of the ship’s areas (poop deck had been her favourite), and just how beautiful the night sky was from the rigging.
And then, her favourite paragraph. The paragraph that explained how he loved sailing, but was tired of those stuffy Englishmen. That he was coming home, for the first time in 13 years.
She touched the flower that adorned her hair, and breathed in a deep breath.
She couldn’t wait for him to be back.
» Proof that Prussia/Hungary doesn't always have to be angsty? I don't even know. This came out of nowhere. I guess I just wanted them to have a happy ending for once.
...man, I'm out of practice.
And yes I know the song is from Finding Nemo shut up that movie is amazing okay
