Inspired by:-
• my recent gusto for writing a load of ramblings
• my recent feel that I'm able to produce those ramblings in a way that's in some way intelligible
• my recent feel that I'm at a stage whereby I'm able to consider points and experiences and ideas in a manner which is balanced and thoughtful
• my repicking up of my favourite author as a teenager Jack Kerouac's work On The Road, I couldn't find my original dog eared copy, and I'd talked about him a lot recently, so I went out and bought the new special edition of it, which is made from his original 120 foot long typewriter scroll, which has never been published in it's true, unedited form (the famous final draft is said to be vasty tamer). I went back to reading up on his life and felt the old flame of inspiration as I enjoyed tales of how he tried and tried to be published and spent his formative years filling notebooks for what would later form his books.
I started writing the opening chapter of what I'd maybe naively like to be completed this year as being my first true attempt at a book. Thinking about it during my lunchhour I wasn't sure how the flavour of the book would turn out. I'd read about how Kerouac's books were pretty much autobiographical, or centered around his experiences. I'm not sure if I could construct a book in an autobiographical style, I mean it wouldn't have a plot or ending. I suppose I could construct a plot, and I suppose the answer is to contrust a story, and tell the book using your own experiences and thoughts for the main character.
But anyway, I hit then an idea of spliting a book into almost, well two different books under one cover, but they'd both be stories hailing from the same character, and yet telling two different stories as the main character takes one or some decisions differently. Almost like an alternate reality, but done as two seperate books, following on from the same shared first few chapters.
I'm not saying that's an idea I'd actually use, maybe it's a bit too tame of an idea. I'm not sure, but I'm racking my brain, maybe there are some famous works out there, I mean I'm sure the idea of alternates has been used in many books, but I can't remember a work which does this two completely different sets of tales which could be both published seperately in their own right, from the same character and basis.
Further thoughts for the day. I wrote to someone I'm meeting for work that I'd meet them in their city, and I'd booked the train departing back for late afternoon. When they responded that is it possible for me to book an earlier train, I told them it would be ok, I have a good book to read at the train station. I thought for a second maybe I should clarify after that, that by 'good book' I wasn't refering to the Holy Bible in some sort of bible bashing happy preacher way. lol.
It's little funnies like that, that make life what it is.
