86 on the way to 79

Today is a day that will be marked down in the Jacobsen history books. It is a day that I join the small elite of players who should be recognized for their achievements. Only 20% of the people that actively play the game of golf can shoot a score under 100. I was able to break 100 many years ago. Now I consider it a bad  round if I do not shoot lower than 100.

My goal for about the past decade has been to break 90. I had come close many times in a large number of attempts. There would always be that one hole that would destroy me. Well my friends, my day of reckoning has arrived. Not only did break 90 this morning, I shot an 86 after missing a birdie putt for an 85. I scored nothing over a double bogey and even turned in a birdie. I only had 3 penalty shots, 2 of which would not have occurred in normal dry conditions.

As much as I would have preferred my father to be my witness, he was happy to hear the news just the same. Now my goal gets tougher, and with a time limit to be successful. My father did not break 80 until he was in his 40s. I am merely 7 strokes away with 14 plus years time. I have improved a great deal since just the beginning of this year. I know I can shot lower than an 80 before I turn 40.

Happy day and fond memory for me on this glorious July 8th, 2010!
