I don't know if you've heard, but there's this gaming system called a "Wii" from Nintendo. It's pretty fun to play, and even though they've been on sale for a year already, production is still behind demand, so nintendo admitted they won't have enough Wii's to make demand for the Winter Holidays.
So...I have been eyeing getting a Wii. I have been watching www.wiitracker.com. The website automatically checks all sorts of different places where the Wii is sold, to see if it is in stock. There are a few places that continually have it in stock (such as walmart) but they either grossly overcharge ($400 for a system that retails at $250) or they make you buy a bundle with a few crappy games, 1 or 2 good games and maybe a good accessory, all at full price, so nomatter you're paying $500/$600. So I've been watching and thinking of picking one up for myself. Thursday was my lucky day and I was able to get in on the 30 or so minutes that bestbuy.com had the wii in stock at the $250 price ($276 after S&H and tax). Now comes the real problem I'm having. To keep the Wii, or sell it on eBay (where it normally sells for $400 anyway)?
Keep it:
It's tons of fun...tons
I've never sold anything on eBay, and I'm worried my inexperience will wind up with me making almost nothing on it.
How fair is it to buy it at MSRP at bestbuy.com and then sell it to someone on eBay? I assuredly contributed to the lack of supply so in effect am scalping the Wii for profit.
Toys R Us is having a 3 for 2 sale on all Wii games Sell it:
I'm not as rich as I thought I was when I put down the almost $300 to buy it. I realized that when I checked my bank accounts the next day and saw I was below my "safe" line (I don't like to dip below $1k in my bank ever....like going near E on your gas tank). I'm usually pretty good with money so this doesn't work well for my self-preservation. (I grew up really poor, where it wasn't uncommon to have 10 cents (or negative $) in the family checking account...so I REALLY don't like to get low in money)
I could potentially profit around $100
Rationalization: My profit could be the payment for actually watching and working on getting the Wii. A finder's fee so to speak. Making it more convenient for others.
I have a gamecube already, and a few games I have still yet to play, more left to beat.
Grad school doesn't really leave much time for video games.
Keeping it means I Should/need to buy more accessories (controllers) and games, thus spending more $$.
It'll eventually be back in stock, and I'm sure the price will drop within a year or two anyway (when I might have more time to play and more people to play with). Delayed Gratification anyone?
I think I'll sell it. What do you think? Any advice for selling on eBay (I've bought but not sold).
