Memoirs of a Geisha - I actually really have been wanting to read this book, and I'm almost certain that I'm going to get to it now before this movie comes out. Why? Because it looks like a piece of crap! A. PIECE. OF. CRAP. Not even the sheer greatness of Zhang Ziyi, Ken Watanabe, and Michelle Yeoh can change that. Since that douche bag director

WHY CAN'T THEY JUST FUCKING SPEAK JAPANESE?! It seriously isn't like Rob Marshall is making this film for the viewers, he's making it to get that naked golden man on his fireplace,
No doubt. But there's no way he'd have a chance of getting that naked golden man if the movie was in Japanese. Similarly, having the movie in Japanese would severely limit it's audience. Add in the fact that Marshall doesn't speak Japanese and... there's just no way.
any indication of Zhang Ziyi not having acting abilities fizzled pretty fucking fast when I was watching 2046.
Good man. Yeah, definitely her finest performance thus far. Added points for being the nearest to nudity she's ever been in a movie, except the whole wet t-shirt thing in Crouching Tiger.
These actors shouldn't be wasting their time with crap like this. I guarantee you'd rather see the exact same actors star in really anything else.
Ah, but see... I think it's very very smart of them to want in on this movie. As you yourself said, this movie has MADE FOR THE ACADEMY'S PLEASURE written all over it. This movie will get all kinds of press and every single person with a speaking role is going to have their stock go way the fuck up in Hollywood. Being in this movie means more money and better opportunities for them.
That can only be a good thing. Ziyi getting an Oscar nomination means more Ziyi in magazines, on TV, and in movies. I can see no drawback. Same goes for the rest of them. Whether the movie is good or not, the increased exposure is a wonderful thing for them, their fans, and hell, even Asian cinema altogether.
Unless the movie flops, this is all good, my friend. Take comfort.

remember what the honkeys did to John Woo?
Jackie Chan?
CYF - the corruptor was not that cool
Anything Zhang Ziyi has done here in the states has pretty much been the same (rush hour 2, just to remind you)
EVERY remake of an asian movie so far has licked complete balls. Shit, look at the magnificent seven! You want them to get EXPOSURE here?
Hollywood and asian cinema should stay far away from each other.
trust me, when Zhang Ziyi shows up in Dukes of Hazard 2, you'll understand
calling this good would be like calling the Infernal Affairs dvd cover "cool". The white man doesn't get it.

You want them to get EXPOSURE here?
Yes! Absolutely! If it means someone lke Ziyi or Gong Li will from now on get offers to be in movies that AREN'T Rush Hour 2 and Replacement Killers, then HELL FUCKIN YEAH I want them in this movie. I want to see Michelle Yeoh work with Sam Mendes, not some newbie director whose previous experience is music videos. You know what I'm saying? This will raise them up a notch on the Hollywood ladder and give them better opportunities in the future. It means that they will be able to turn down shitty movies like Dukes Of Hazard 2. TRUST ME.
The white man doesn't get it.
Not yet. But he will. Someday. And this movie is going to help that along. Just you watch.

Ken Watanabe wwas put on the map by Last Samurai...An Oscar-nominated role
Michelle Yeoh...Crouching Tiger. I'll even give you Supercop since it got a theatrical release here in the states.
---remember that---
Watanabe played a comic book villain for prolly 10 minutes at the most
Zhang Ziyi was directed by Brett Ratner
Michelle Yeoh's moves got to be called "pathetic" by Jonathon Pryce in a JAMES BOND MOVIE. She joins those ranks of recent "bond girls" with Charlie Sheen's wife, Storm from X-Men, and a Desperate Housewife.
I'm just saying

Zhang Ziyi was in Rush Hour 2 because she's friends with Jackie Chan. He asked her to be in it with him. And she hasn't gone on to do other crappy movies since then, has she? No. In fact, I don't think she's been in a single bad movie since then.
Don't tell me you think Ken Watanabe being in Batman Begins was a bad thing. Doesn't matter if the role was only 10 minutes long, it was one worth taking. And he never even would have been offered the role if not for The Last Samurai. Being in the Batman movie didn't lessen his Hollywood value or his chances of landing a quality role in the US in the future. If anything, it increased his chances.
Michelle Yeoh was in the James Bond movie BEFORE Crouching Tiger... And even though it was a Bond movie, it was NOT a bad career choice. It certainly hasn't led to her being stuck with crappy movies since then, either.
The point is, I don't see why the added exposure, especially in a movie destined to be a critical success if not a box office one, could be bad. Making their names known only means MORE opportunity. MORE chances to be in decent movies. It's when the names are relatively unknown in the US that the actors get stuck in crappy movies. See Chow Yun Fat. If his first American movie had been an Oscar contender type movie, I guarantee his career would have gone differently here in the US.
I'm just saying.

The second Zhang Ziyi is in something retarded, expect something similar to the Astonishing X- Men #4 debacle a year ago. Same goes for Watanabe.
Ken Watanabe should work with Fincher.

HAHA. Deal.
Fincher should work with Watanabe. Get off his ass and do a fucking movie again.
