I want to move to England and be in the Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band, so I can play Concerto De Aranjuez, like they do in the movie Brassed Off. God, I love that movie...the Concerto De Aranjuez part especially!!!!!!!! Like *drool* OMG the flugal horn is sooooooo cool!!!!! That song has the best solo part ever, and I'm officially in love with it. Thinking about brass band makes me happy, and it makes me not think about the ceremonial guard. I wanted to be in the ceremonial guard band more than anything in the entire world, since I was like 10 and went to see them in Ottawa. But cuz of things, that had nothing to do do with my playing, I can never be in it. I was all upset, until I forced Jake to watch brassed off with me. We were watching it and I was like HOLLY CRAP!!! THAT'S THE SONG!!!! and I started liek freaking out. When I came home from Lindsi's Oshawa band concert last summer I was all like Concerto De Aranjuez this! Concerto De Aranjuez that! and I wouldn't stop talking about it, and to find out that the song is in the movie made me so happy! It also reminded me that there are so many other musical things I can do that arent the ceremonial guard, but they're just as great. Whether there's trumpets or cornets or french horns or tenor horns.....it's all still music, and I think I had totally lost sight of that. This time last year I wouldnt even consider brass band as an option, because I was so hung up in the whole I'm going to be in the ceremonial guard band or else thing. I was watching the movie and thinking about how many people were affected by the band winning the competition, and how it totally changed some of the people, and I felt bad. I felt bad because usually I'd just crack some joke about how the band is all brass, and find some way to berate it because it's not the ceremonial guard. I really want to play Concerto De Aranjuez, and all those other songs, and give other genres of music a chance. When I was listening to the cd from the movie, it was like a whole new world of music opened up infront of me, music that I'd never given a chance before. I guess life is about going for goals that are obtainable, and not dewling on the goals that arent. When one door closes, another one will always open no matter what. If you're in pain, I guess it's for a reason, because people dont get challenged with something that they cant handle. If you're tough enough, you can make it through anything no matter how tough it is, and I think I learned that this week. When your going through something, there's always someone else going through a similar thing, and you're never alone, even when it feels like it. I guess I've fianlly learned that I'm just as good as everybody else. When life gives you oranges, make Concerto D'Orange Juice. ok, that was corny.
