Soooo....yeah. I've been really busy with the wedding planning and everything else lately and just haven't had the time to post here. But I've got another hour before I have to leave for my doctor's appointment and then work, and Steve's still sleeping, so I have a bit of time to post.
Wedding planning is rolling along, though I will say I'll be glad when it's actually The Day. Every time I think I have something sorted out, I hit a brick wall and have to figure out an alternative. For example, the pastor and the location for the ceremony and reception. We were going to get married at Steve's brother and sister-in-law's church, and have the reception there as well. We had a meeting with the pastor...and it was bizarre. It's a nondenomitational (sp?) church, but the pastor had an issue with Steve being divorced. He wanted to know if the divorce was due to adultery, and when Steve said no, he told Steve that he would have to be saved again in order to wash away the sin of divorce, and then said that since his ex-wife hadn't remarried, for Steve to marry me would be adultery. WHAT? So the sin of divorce is bigger than the sin of adultery? It made no sense to me. Then we got talking about church, and I told him about the church I attend - which is a fairly large church, it's got three campuses in the area. He started really putting my church down, saying that they water down their message and they're not effective because they're so big. To me, that smacked of envy - and isn't that one of the seven deadly sins? Anyway, at the end of the meeting he said he would marry us and set up a schedule for marriage counseling. Then two days later he called my cell phone, and left me a voice mail message saying that God was leading him in a different direction and he wouldn't be able to marry us after all. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper.
But luckily, Shelly works with a lady whose husband is a pastor for a church in Rossford. I called him and he said he'd be happy to marry us, and all he asked for was a donation to his church. We're supposed to meet with him sometime this month; I left him a message yesterday to set up an appointment. Shelly's told me he's a very kind man; I think he's going to be the right one to marry us. We found a new location too - the pastor at the other church said we could still use their room but after the way he treated us, I didn't want the wedding or the reception to be held there. We're going to have the wedding and the reception at the Richfield Center Township Hall in Berkey, not far from our house. It's two stories - we got the building for only $50 because we know someone in the township who rented it for us. Wedding will be upstairs - then food downstairs and dancing back upstairs.
I've had my dress bought since February - I found a gorgeous ivory dress at JCPenney's. It's actually a prom dress, but you can't tell by looking at it. I got an awesome deal on it too. The maid of honor and bridesmaids dresses are all paid for. Danielle and Jennifer's dresses already came in - my sister and Shelly's dresses should be in by the 20th. I got them at David's Bridal - not keen on that place, but again, great deal on the dresses. I bought artificial flowers and Shelly put together the bouquets, boutonnaires, and corsages for everyone. Brenda has bubble balls that she said I can have after June (another friend of hers needs them for her wedding too), and we're going to put some colored stones and votive candles in them for the centerpieces for the reception.
I really, really wanted All 4 It to play at the reception, but Larry quoted me $500 for the night, and that's just not in our price range. I asked him if they could come down any, but he never answered me. My dad's friend DJ's, but he's booked that night, so he referred me to a friend of his who DJ's. That guy is sending me a packet of information in the mail, but I'm afraid he's going to be too expensive as well. If worse comes to worse, I guess we'll just hook the computer up to some speakers and find someone who can play DJ just for the first dance, father/daughter dance, etc.
We're still working on food - Steve wants to do a pig roast and then we'll make the side dishes - potato salad, baked beans, etc. I just finished the guest list this week and I'll probably start working on invitations next week. I want to have them out in the mail by June, so RSVP's can be in by the first week of August.
Sigh. Any wonder why I'm tired all the time??? ;)
(And I had to use my House icon because....wow. The House/Cuddy makeout scene last night was pretty hot, I have to admit. Though I always rooted for House and Cameron to hook up....)
