Summary: Terra finds her treasure map. /latepants
Terra stood on the pier, trying to delay as long as possible the moment when she would need to go inside. The clean, fresh smell of the sea, the way the sunset glittered fiery pink and gold off the water... a year ago she had taken such everyday things for granted, hardly noticing them. There had never been time--always rushing from battle to battle, fleeing the Empire, searching for the espers. And before that she had never thought about them at all. Up at sunrise, asleep in a narrow, windowless room after each day of training, and then the slave crown....
It was beautiful. She almost wanted to stay standing here forever in this place. I wonder if my world will ever look like this again? she wondered. If--when, another part of her insisted--they defeated Kefka, would it be restored to its former state, or would it remain a tarnished sky over barren lands in a polluted ocean? And would she ever see it again at all? It might be that she would simply walk from world to world through endless doors. That promise to her children would be broken. I told them I would make the world safe for them. I want to defeat Kefka. I want to fight alongside Celes and everyone... I want to return.
She sighed, the guilt and sudden helpless feeling almost a physical ache. Then something strange caught her eye--a piece of parchment fluttering in the breeze. Running along the pier, Terra reached out and caught it. Treasure map?
