dominican republic
it was a very nice vacation... except that i spent the last three days in the bathroom. i think it was the burger, but i'm not sure!
lisa and me were ten minutes in the country and the first person got shot. those dominicans are gun-crazy, i mean you see them everywhere.
the beach was very nice and every day over 85. went snorkling in the reef and saw tons of fish. wanted to rent a catamaran which was too expensive.
it's really annoying... everybody tries to rip you off or pull you into shitty tourist stores. on the first day i paid 25$ for a 8fl.oz. bottle of sunblock. if you think about the average income in that country of 122$ i think it's a little overpriced.
besides the greedy people that like ripping-off tourists the dominincans are very nice and helpful. one day me and lisa drove on the back of a truck through the country, visited a school and a sugar and cocoa plantation. it was very interesting to see how people in a third world country live like and very sad too. especially the people in the mountains are very poor. then you have the fat and greedy tourists in the five star resorts bitching around how awful the food is. i mean, what must the dominican people think that work in the hotels?!?
on another day we went on this bus-trip to santo domingo. the big cities are a little better than the countryside, but not comparable to our living standards. 18 to 20 hours electricity everyday and two times a week tap water, which you can't even drink. i took tons of pics and there were sevoural good shots, i hope i get them uploaded very soon!
