something i've never considered for myself. not saying that i'm perfect, but i'm of the opinion that any surgery that isn't necessary should be avoided. it's very taxing on the body to recover from surgery and there's always a risk that something can go wrong (anesthesia issues, etc.). however, that said, if you want to get surgery that's your freedom to do so. as long as it's something you want, and not something you're pressured to do. i don't understand the mentality of wanting to look like someone else but i can understand the want to feel pretty. although if you feel that you can only achieve that under a knife, then there might be some underlying issues that not even surgery can fix.
what really bothers me about cosmetic surgery is that fact that people who are really young are getting things done. they haven't even grown into their bodies and they've already decided that they don't like it. they all strive to look like something different from themselves who they haven't even given the opportunity to see. i feel it's a bit sad that it's so prevalent nowadays, that instead of letting natural beauty unfold people turn to the instant artificial and superficial version.
what bothers me even more than that is the fact that people are always saying that asians get surgery to look like "westerners". seriously, no! big eyes have always been considered favorable to small eyes, and there are plenty of asians who have the "double eye-lid" thing naturally without going under the knife. so they don't get that to look more "white". the same goes for having a high nose bridge. but i think that gets distorted in "western" media. the western idea of an asian person is the small hooded eyes and flatter nose, who by asian standards are not the most beautiful of the crop to begin with (yes, i know i'm being harsh). and then when they see asians getting surgery to not look like that, they attribute it to asians wanting to look more "western". really, no! you people are beautiful in your own way, but you are definitely not the epitome of beauty that everyone strives for. so seriously, get over yourselves.
ok, rant over. feel free to share your opinion.
