Giles! Giles is on Doctor Who tonight! I miss him/Anthony Stewart Head so much.

Perhaps he is what urged me to find the Videos That Don't Suck special that aired a couple of years ago on MTV. It mostly consists of David Boreanaz, Charisma Carpenter, Nicholas Brendan, and Seth Green. There is one moment between Seth and Nick that is especially hilarious.

The 50 Worst Things Ever to Happen to Music. My favorite part is "how many degrees is this pop opera artist away from Celine Dion?"

I rented a Mystery Science Theater 3000 DVD this weekend and it comes with one of the best shorts ever.

Holy crap, I've decided to finally listen to "The Origin of Love" from "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" and it is so freaking good. Yes, I had to say that.

There was an article with Daphne Rubin-Vega on playbill.com and she talked about Fantine. And I'm so happy her view pretty much coincides with mine:

Q: How are you approaching the song?
Rubin-Vega: What I try to do is just hit the notes and tell the truth. [Laughs.] That's really as simple as it can be. The song, it sings for itself . . . because it's so laden with drama. [With] the story of Fantine, usually less is more, although I'm not really trying to do less. I'm just in the beginning - it's my second week of rehearsal, and I find that less is more. As long as you can physically hit the notes artfully, then just letting the song be is the best trick.

Yes, exactly. The song is so melodramatic already, it really doesn't need any histrionics, which I've heard lots of actresses do to the song. That's probably why Patti LuPone's still my favorite version (by a slim margin I admit). She's been accused of not acting in it, but to me she was just letting the song do the work for her.

Oh, and later in the interview she mentions the part where Fantine sells her teeth, and how tragic it is, and it's something I always wish would/could be included in the musical/movies. Because while selling the hair is sad (and I do wonder how they will put all of Daphne's hair under a wig), there's that, 'it's just hair' feeling. But when she sells her teeth, it's just one of those moments where you wanna . . . kinda confirm your own teeth are still there. (Like when someone on TV has their eyeballs poked or something, and you just wanna rub your eyeball. I get squirmy when people mess with eyes.)

And in more Daphne Rubin-Vega related news, I wrote an e-mail to her official site asking about the lyrics to one song of hers, called "A Caballo." (Sadly not on the album.) And I got a response! Yay. Anyway, she wrote the tune and this makes me even more excited. I thought her best stuff was covers, but it's a really catchy song, and this just makes me even more excited for the album.

Here's a snippet: A Caballo
