Abbey 2010

Hooray! Content!

Though admittedly it will be mostly photos.

I really like the new layout of Abbey... nice and sprawling, a lot more space, still very busy with people but without feeling smothered and crowded absolutely everywhere you went. Very nice feeling for the place overall, and the wood smoke and food smells made me ache with nostalgia.

Without further ado;

The first thing we watched was horseback archery; this is something evidently very new in Australia's re-enactment world, we were essentially watching some of the first demonstrations of the sport ever. Doing drills in front of a crowd was also very new to the horses, and though you could see they were a bit uncertain about the whole deal, they did remarkably well and were handled beautifully.

Larry was a cute horse.

HoverLarry goes whirrrrrrrr.

Chester was the other horse. He was pretty sweet, too.

One of my favourite photos I took all day, I think.

James was reunited with his good buddy Rambo!

The NVG battle tactics demonstration was brilliant! I love these guys. Their fights were genuinely a heap of fun to watch, and their women were plucky. Haha.

These guys were going hard for a while. We were cheering for red!

This dude was our favourite for a while.

First casualty of the day! They laid his shield over him when he was on the stretcher. It was beautiful.

During the 'last man standing' free-for-all, our hearts totally went out to Dual Wielding Guy. He was fantastic!

Especially when, after being knocked out, he started CRAWLING across the battlefield in defiance! He didn't last too long after that, but it was freaking awesome.

I had panini with my boys. I feel like a part of my life is now complete.

Also new to Abbey this year was the falconry display. Tom the Kestrel mostly liked to hang out in the trees.

Mr Owl preferred to pat his handler on the head.

Peregrine in flight.

Peregrine does NOT want to give up her prize!!

Do not want!!!

EEEAAAGLEEEE!

She wants to be a punk rocker with flowers in her hair.

Lols.
