Amphi Festival ??? - JULY 18/19
Amphi Festival is seeming to have a cracking line up this year, with the Fields, Front 242, Jesus on Ecstasy, KMFDM, Leather Strip and Birthday Massacre amongst others.
Tickets are a reasonable E52, though rises to E59 with shipping+charges etc.
Last year i thought it was great. I liked that it was only two stages, one indoor, one out which meant you actually saw most of the bands. The first day there were issues with the indoor stage, but that got sorted out by the second day and bizarely it seems to be a festival that listens to its customers. Also has free water which is awesome. A great amphi theatre set-up and there was even a beach bar !
Hotels are quite close to the venue and i believe camping is off site anyway. I really liked the Radisson, which was close in price to the Ibis, but much better equipped. Even has tea and coffee facilities which i hear are odd for Germany ! - Fri/Sat/Sun comes out at £205 for a twin room or £220 with a breakfast buffet. Last year i grabbed syrup waffles from the garage next door and heated them over the coffee !
The festival is Sat/Sun, so fly out Friday and back Monday, not too bad for holidays. Germanwings from Stansted to Cologne-Bonn comes in at £102 for reasonable times (3pm out, 7pm back), but can be knocked down £67 for an evil 8am flight out.
