The past 5 days were amazing... I don't think I've worked harder and been more satisfied by my effort in my life. I spent Friday, Monday and Tuesday canvassing the Manchester area for Barack Obama... Tuesday I canvassed for a total of 9 1/2 hours. My god. It was awesome. I got to see Congressman Patrick Murphy, Senator Dick Durbin, and former 2000 presidential candidate Bill Bradley as they all stopped into the Manchester office throughout the week.
Canvassing is awesome. I talked to probably about 100 people or so in the 3 days I did it... the last couple of hours I just staked out people's houses waiting for them to come home, or knocked on the same door like 5 different times to try to get them to answer. My legs are sore, my feet have blisters, but I can't wait to do it again in South Carolina over MLK weekend.
The best part about the stint in NH was the poll watching party at Milly's Tavern in Manchester. There were at least 80 people there. Every time Obama's returns increased by one measly percentage point, the crowd erupted in a wave of cheers and hoots and hollers and applause. Think a bunch of Bostonians watching a Red Sox game, multiplied times 10.
I'm a little disappointed in the results, but I know that I literally did everything I could to help the campaign, and that feels great. Round 2 goes to the Clintons. But change is on the horizon, and together, we'll lead this country to a new sense of purpose.
Yes We Can. Yes We Can.
P.S. If anyone is looking for a cheap birthday gift for me (Feb. 23rd b-day), vote for Obama in the primary if you are of age. Massachusetts: Feb 5th. Register ASAP if you haven't.
