Just got back from Youngstown, OH, where we inspected the new compressor that's being built for us.
The trip out was long, slow, and eventful; we watched spellbound as cars played bumper tag thru Toledo, as the snow and ice worsened...
Major Kudos to the trucker who, while avoiding one of the aforementioned bumper tag cars, brought his rig back from the edge of a jackknife, and kept the incident to the "single car" type, and not the "chain reaction" type...
Anyways, the rest of the trip was slow & slushy, with cruddy visibility; all while riding jammed into a rented Dodge Durango with 4 other guys. (Note to self - the Durango is the only Chrysler product I can whole-heartedly HATE!)
We arrived at our hotel after 6.5 hours of driving; about 3:30 pm. Opened our first beers at 3:35pm.
Both the hotel bartenders called in; couldn't make it in, due to the snow. The waitstaff tried to bartend until the Hotel's Food & Beverage Manager got in to take over and tend bar.
One of the guys ordered a Bud Light draft; he ended up having to show the waitress how to change the keg.
We offered to do our own bartending, but they didn't seem too keen on that idea... Wonder why??
Anyways, we had a few beers, then the Vendor Sales Rep showed up, and started buying rounds & shots...
I remember taking a break from the heavy drinking to eat some appetizers, and then a meal...
I found out one thing... I might not drink much or often anymore, but I still can hang!!
I *HAVE* gotten smarter, however... before leaving the bar, my last 2 drinks were icewater, and, after stumbling to my room, I pounded down a quart of Powerade & a couple aspirin.
I woke up before my alarm (wow!), feeling pretty darned good, actually... a bit of a headache, but not much... another quart of poweraded and a few more aspirin took care of that handily.
One of our crew, however, didn't fare quite so well. In fact, he was the last one down to breakfast, and positively turned green when he saw the "shot" sitting at his place... (we cheated and asked the waitress to bring iced tea in a shot glass)...
Ah well... it's nice to see that business trips can still be fun!
