Epic in the making?

Someone had just sent me a link to the Forbidden Kingdom promotional trailer:

For those of you who don't know, this is a collaborative film between Jackie Chan and Jet Li... produced by Lionsgate Films, and choreography done by Yuen Wo Ping (Matrix Trilogy, Kill Bill, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Fearless, etc.).

There had been so much hype about this movie that in one fight scene between Jackie Chan and Jet Li, they were apparently moving SO fast that they had to slow down the footage so that viewers can follow through the action sequence.

Heh, in typical fashion, Jet Li is a monk and Jackie Chan is a drunken master.

After seeing the trailer, I have a few thoughts:

1) WHY IS THERE A WHITE GUY IN THE MOVIE?! Nothing against you white folk (hahaha), but they do not belong in films such as this. Sure, it worked for Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai, but the white guy in this film sticks out like a sore thumb. SERIOUSLY.

2) I'm afraid this movie is about 10 years too late. Jet Li is old, and Jackie Chan is even OLDER (I was already watching his Hong Kong flicks while I was still a young'in back in the Philippines!). And because of age, they may be limited to the amount of things they can do. Moreso for Jackie Chan as it's a known fact that he's been using stunt doubles lately and wires lately. Perhaps Yuen Wo Ping still has a few tricks up his sleeves to revitalize both of their careers...

3) To my delight, I am loving the set/scenery/locales/costume designs already. It is at least a comforting notion that it has the makings of becoming an epic story.

4) Speaking of storyline, the storyline had better be good! But you know, I'm not gonna hold my breath, heh. White boy finding a "divine weapon", and transports himself back in time? What is this, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III?

All things said, I'm still going to see this movie. I'm crossing my fingers that this will be a pleasant surprise...
