Vegan Camp! (not camp vegan)

Apr 16, 2003 20:32

Vegan Camp 2003 is near Lyme-Regis, Dorset, from August 2nd to 16th, are you going?

I intend to be there for the second week, and hopefully there'll be some other members of Luton & Dunstable Vegans there too!

Recently I've been wondering if there were any vegan meetups/camps/etc in the UK. You had some good timing with that post. :)

I'm very interested in going for part of it, especially since I don't live far away (Somerset). How long will depend on how much I can afford to spend.

Oh, I'm Rebecca. Went vegan at the end of last year after being veggie for 6 years. Saw this community linked to in one of the other vegan communities.

Cool!
I decided to start this community after noticing that all the online vegan communities seemed to be populated almost entirely by Americans, and it was difficult to find people from the UK in the ocean of irrelevant posts!
Are you a member of the Vegan Society?
There may be a local group in your area, and if there isn't why not start one?
I've been meaning to get a website up for the local group that I "organise" (Luton & Dunstable Vegans), but what with work and all I haven't got around to it yet!

Yeah, I'd noticed that about most communities too. Useful for learning about what it's like to be vegan in the US, not so great for meeting vegans that live anywhere near you. It was one of the main reasons I never spoke up in them.

I haven't joined the Vegan Society yet, but I have thought about it. I probably will before long, I just have to wait until there's definitely enough money in my bank account. In other words, I have to wait for the money I'm supposed to live on next term.

I have looked for a group in Somerset, but haven't found anything. The problem with me starting one here is that I now only live here out of term time. However, I am helping to set up a vegetarian society at uni.

Great to hear that you're starting a vegetarian group at your uni, hope it goes well!
Does your uni library get the Vegan magazine?  If not they can almost certainly get a complimentary copy from the Vegan Society, I have the email address of the bloke in charge of that if you want.

Which university are you at?  I can have a look to see if there's a local contact in your area who may be able to help you.
