What a long day.
Left at 0600, came back at 2100.
Sonny picked us up to drive to Calais, take the ferry to Dover and continue to Canterbury. Even as a passenger in the back seat I have to admit that driving on the left side of the road was quite confusing and nauseating, so I kept my eyes closed most of the time. When I did open them though I saw lovely rolling hills and cute houses.
We arrived a bit too early in Canterbury, the shops only started to open and we browsed a couple of them. Geeks that we are, we spent most of our money on books and food.
Oh, and that £25 fine for not putting enough money in the parking meter.
After finding that lovely little note (entirely our fault), we decided to return to Dover and stroll around there a little. How different things were there compared to Canterbury. Everything in Dover just looked and felt a little more run-down. The best shop we visited there was a second-hand book shop, where I found a copy of Steven Pinker's "How the Mind Works" for £3.99. He's one of my intellectual heroes, among Dawkins, Hitchens, DeGrasse Tyson and Fry.
On the way back we caught an earlier ferry, and while Sonny, Cookie and Search still went to the gaming club for a little Christmas reception, I preferred a bath and some quiet time.
Given the circumstances, I think we all had a good day. I occasionally had to take a little time-out, when the shuffling through shops with three other people got too much for me, or the discussions about films and series got too lively. My three companions are rather opinionated, passionate and... well, talkative ;)
I think I'll have an early night, and hopefully I'll sleep more and better than lately.
