Michael was not a fan of candles. This is why, he supposed, Andrew had dotted them around the dressing room like a bad romance scene from a Hollywood movie. They weren't your bog-standard tealights either - they were a deep red colour, shaped like flowers and scented like potpourri that had been in the cupboard a little too long. It really was sickening.

He didn't dare as Andrew why he'd done it. But, as he pondered between the yellow and the striped shirt, the reason became apparent.

"So," Andrew said, as nonchalantly as Andrew could, as he popped his head around the door. "Are you looking forward to seeing Jess tonight?"

It was phrased as a question, but the tone was one of a demand. Michael was use to it by now.

"I haven't given much thought to it," Michael replied, untruthfully.

It may have been his imagination, but for a second it seemed the candles flared a little higher.

"Well, I think you'd better start," Andrew said softly. And then he let the door close with a quiet click, leaving Michael in his circle of flame.
