Some (terrible) Labour leadership contest campaign videos

Some of the Labour leadership candidates have put up YouTube videos explaining why you should vote for them.

First up is Liz Kendall, who has reassured the Party that she intends to keep Ed Miliband's legacy alive by releasing this video:

Specifically, his legacy of making godawful campaign videos. While Ed's usually featured him wandering aimlessly around a train station accosting random commuters, Liz is trying to reach out to the Tumblr generation by depicting herself sitting alone in a darkened room, typing on the computer. (Also the results of her wandering around a train station accosting random Labour members might be unpredictable and unflattering to her campaign.) Not only did this editorial choice produce something akin to a bad Borgen outtake, she then compounded her error by leaving the comments on when she posted it to YouTube. Oops.

But at least she's provided the Lolitics fandom with a rich source of gif material.

Next up is Andy, with Andy Burnham: the Movie.

Andy Burnham: the Movie focuses on the key themes of Andy's campaign, namely that he knows many people with Northern accents and he is An Ordinary Bloke Who Likes Football and Beer. Neil Kinnock: the Movie taught us that Neil knew many people with Welsh accents and had decent taste in music, which is about as strong a recommendation for making Neil Prime Minister as anyone could have made, unless the video was just twenty minutes of Margaret Thatcher talking. Andy Burnham: the Movie may be less successful, as Northern accents aren't quite as nice to listen to as Welsh accents.

Still, you've got to give him points for staying on message, and it did give the world this photo:

Yvette Cooper has also remained true to the central theme of her campaign by not releasing a video.

well this is worrying, yvette 'pixie queen' cooper, labour: a shadow, video, andy burnham has sad sad eyes
