Farewell

My farewell party

Tuesday was my going-away party which was planned by my old supervisor. A good portion of the Ujiyamada High School teachers I've interacted with over the past two years were able to make it. There were some performances, some singing of the school song, and lots of amusing conversation spanning events of the last two years. There was an after-party as well where I was able to participate in some deeper conversation, something I don't get to do often in either English or Japanese since one of the people in any given exchange is speaking a second tongue. It was a good time.

Tomorrow is the last day of the school term, meaning I'll be giving my speech. Then I've got exactly one week left to get this house all packed up and cleaned up for the newbie. I've developed a bad fever though, so I hope it goes away quickly because I can't do much cleaning in this state...the medicine is killing my stomach. I think it was stress-induced. This has been probably the most stressful month of my two years in Japan. I haven't had a single night of pure relaxation in almost a month...last minute things or events keep popping up.

In one week that'll be over and I'll be living peacefully with Leizel.

Oh yea. I had an interview. Meh. It wasn't a disaster, but it was what one would expect from someone who's never had a real job interview in their life, and doing it in a foreign language. I was too busy preparing myself for "why I want to work for this company", "what are my strong points and weak points", and "what would your friends say about you" that I forgot to prepare hardly anything for computer-related questions as well as my academic experience at Kent.

"What kind of programs did you create during college? What about on your own in your free time?"

...Uh...heh...I forget.

And even if I remembered some aspect, how do I say that in Japanese? Oh well. Note to self: Review programming folder before next job interview.

Hopefully I made no impression so they won't remember me as an idiot if I interview there again. It was a very good learning experience, and it was really cool as a longtime fan to walk into their building.
