This is unreal

I just got a surprise phone call just now. From Square-Enix. Excitement and fear coursed rapidly through my thoughts and muscles.

I will be interviewing with the game research and development department on Monday, July 14th and there will a test involved as well.

I feel I'm not likely to get the job as there will certainly be gaijin who have more computer science experience than me, and better Japanese as well. Test? No idea what's going to be on it. Interview? I suck at uber-polite Japanese...I guess I've got two weeks to work on it. Either way I'll give it my best though.

I told them I'm not available to work until September of next year, and they said I should still come in for the interview and test anyway. I'd almost be willing to completely break and sever all good relations with the JET program for the mere chance to work for Square-Enix, but the truth is my plans for this coming year have already been decided and I'm not available to work immediately...and I'm going to stick to that.

But the fact that they even called me in the first place...well for someone who's been playing Final Fantasy games all the way back to 3rd grade when I played the NES original...now that I've had a phone call from Square-Enix asking for me by name I think I could probably die happy.Update: The test I will be taking is a personality test. That's even more nerve-racking, I'm going to have to think about what the "right" answer is. I'd rather take a CS test where the right answer is either (fairly) obvious or not. I wonder what kinds of weird questions the Japanese corporate psychologists will dream up...and I wonder what kind of answers they want.
