Last week marked six months remaining until the next Japanese Language Proficiency Test. Considering I started studying almost immediately after the previous one ended, my time to progress from JLPT Level 3 to JLPT Level 2 is halfway up.
Do I currently consider myself halfway between Level 3 and Level 2? Unfortunately, not quite. I just started making the vocabulary flash cards recently but I'm not worried about finishing them on time because the creating/memorizing process goes pretty quickly. I'm about halfway through the kanji I need to learn, but now that I'm adding vocabulary (and grammar) to my rotation, I'll have less time to do the remaining 350 kanji. I may have to take the quick route with those. The best news here though is that after six months of studying I'm not burnt out, is it possible to not only continue this, but intensify the studying for another six months?
Despite not being quite halfway there yet, I am quite pleased because my speaking has gotten significantly better in the last six months. My level of fluency (being able to talk without thinking) has gone up a lot. The drawback here is that the more you talk without thinking the more mistakes you're likely to make, especially in terms of picky grammatical constructs and the Japanese version of prepositions which are called "particles". But I can communicate about all sorts of stuff now so I'm quite happy about it nonetheless.
がんばろう! (I'll do my best!)
